Here is my experience with the fullscreen version from another thread:

I can't believe how stupid I was. I picked up "Predator" at Best Buy and it came with the ticket. Good. Now I just noticed that I got the "Full Screen" version. I just pulled the wrapper and the lable from the back of the package from the trash and noticed that the "Full Screen" info was only on the rear of the package. How stupid is that? I guess Fox did not want to mar their cover art with such important information. Guess I'll have to always look at the front, back, side, top, and bottom to ensure I am getting the version I want. Fortunately I did not use the ticket and I have the receipt. We shall see if I can exchange it.

And then the satisfactory conclusion:

I just returned from Best Buy and with the assistance of a cute female blond blueshirt I was able to make the exchange. She told me in a conspiratorial hush that she was not allowed to make the exchange (I guess it had to be for the EXACT item) and I thanked her profusely. She then told me she preferred "fullscreen" because she did not like "heads being cut off". I then asked her what is the normal shape of a movie screen and when she replied I then told her that to fit a normal TV screen they just cut off the sides and blow it up to fit the screen. (Nit pickers: Yes I am technically inaccurate but I did not have the time to get into Pan and Scan, Flat, open matts, super 35, etc., etc.). Anyway I got an "Oh yeah, guess you're right". Maybe there is some hope. I know that online retailers are usually cheaper but sometimes being able to do business in person with someone willing to help can be worth the added expense.

All the full screen versions at my local BB were in the New Release section while all the widescreens were in the regular stock. I know I should have looked at the back but this was the first time I encountered a title that had this info only on the back.

When you have a Best Buy employee in a headlock on register 4, management tends to take notice.

Too much effort, they aren't worth it to me, I just use my cloak of invisibility, toss an old lady down to confuse everyone, then I cover up the $3,000. tv, wheel it out to a truck, go back in, sweet talk that cute blond chick, grab a small bikini for her and have her cook me dinner wearing it, while I hook up the tv and show her why wide-screen is better by using one of those Sony handy cams that films in 16x9 that I also snagged. When I have trouble with somethign at retail I stare at the clrerk blankly like I don't understand their objections. They usually give up and do whatever I was trying to get them to.

Just a warning as long as we're on the topic of Fox DVDs that aren't clearly marked.... For those that are interested in purchasing The Passion Of The Christ, there are both widescreen and fullscreen versions coming out. There's nothing on the front of the DVD distinguishing the two, other than a small sticker that doesn't appear on all of them - look very closely on the grid on the bottom of the back cover to make sure you're picking up the widescreen version.

as a rule of thumb, I dont even rent a movie unless its widescreen. I check the box profusely, cause if I come home and pop it in and its not widescreen I have a coniption fit, and it ruins my night. Of course, if there isnt an option and all they produced was P&S, then I rent it, like some tv shows (i.e. The Office)
PS. the Passion is one of those movies that Ill use a free rental on. Just because of my beliefs; or lack there of I should say. Penn & Tellers Bullshit! anyone?
