You're better off saying it's defective...It's not their fault if you opened it without checking.

Agreed. But isn't it their fault for not displaying it well?? I mean, I had to go fishing for widescreen.

What if I went to the grocery store and all the cans of Coke looked the same except on the bottom of the cans they were marked diet or regular. All these cans were all mixed on the shelves without rhyme or reason and no shelf tags. Wouldn't I have a right to be upset if I brought home a six pack of diet when I wanted the real thing but because I didn't bother to look at the bottom of the cans I didn't?

Why does these threads exist? I'll never understand why people can't take 3 seconds to check which version they've got. Bad eyesight? Can't read? Ask an employee!

Magnus = The voice of reason as far as this thread is concerned. If the info is on the packaging, it's not the manufacturer or the store's fault if the costumer doesn't bother to check that they're buying the right version.

Man, an hour wasted on this sig! Thanks, Toshiba! :p

Gee, I apologize. I didn't say I wasn't at fault, in fact if you read the thread I think I said that more than once.

All I'm asking is why does the studio even bother to make these Special Edition DVDs yet offer it in Full Screen and why shouldn't stores have the widescreen and fullscreen more easily marked side by side instead of buried. And yes, I am looking to take it back because it was clearly marked.

My eyesight is 20/20 and I have a bachelor's degree, so I'm pretty sure I can read as well. Maybe in my excitement and haste to leave the store with Kill Bill & Predator I simply made the mistake of assuming. Based on the fact I was clearly not the only one to do tis, I don't think there is a need for insults thank you.

I agree. When I bought mine from Best Buy, I had to dig through a display of WS and FS to find a WS copy. I didn't even know there was going to be a FS version, so I was surprised to see FULL SCREEN EDITION printed on the back of the first copy I grabbed. My first thought was, "This is going to cause problems for some people."

Bottom line: ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check the back cover details. "Predator" has six different DVD's available. At this stage of the DVD market, with all the different versions of one title (WS, FS, 2-disc SE, SuperBit, SuperBit Deluxe, DTS, Ultimate, Director's Cut, Unrated, Explosive, Too-Hot-To-Handle, BFD, etc., etc., etc.) it's more important than ever to READ the packaging.

Would it be easier if Fox had labeled the front cover and Best Buy had a clearly marked display? Sure. Even if the display was clearly labeled, would you still just grab the DVD, purchase and open it, without confirming its features on the backside?

I can remember many threads in this forum where people were "sabotaging" (in the name of OAR) retail displays by hiding FS versions behind all the WS versions.
This probably caused a similar situation to happen.

Either way, the consumer had the option to read the package or not.

I say suck it up. A mistake was made. It happens. (You'll probably never do it again!) Give the disc to a friend or donate it to a school or library. Returning it to the store as "defective" is dishonest.

I say take it back and tell them that it's
not playing properly in your player. Like others
have said, it's wise to always check for the
widescreen detail on the back before leaving
the store, but it was an honest mistake that
you purchased the version that you don't want.
If you say that your player has problems with
the title, they should let you exchange it no
questions asked.

Pretty please, with sugar on top,
clean the f**king car.

Money, what else? They don't put out OAR versions out of the goodness of their hearts, either.

It was on the packaging. Annoying though it may be to have to read the fine print, it's our responsibility.

Some people are getting too snotty here. Yes, those of us that fucked up and bought a drink coaster instead of the acutal movie known as Predator should have looked closer.

That said, Fox had their heads in their rectums when they designed the packaging as they should have made it a lot more obvious. It doesnt even say P&S or Widescreen on the front (they should have at least put a sticker on the shrink-wrap). Most titles that I see than come in the Joe Six Pack version are clearly labled as such. Plus, BB made no indication on the signage which version was which (and this is something they almost always do).

That said, I took my back, said it was defective (it WAS) and got the real version. I would think that it would not be a loss to them as they would probably send it back to their distributor and ultimately back to Fox (who should take a loss on a piece of shit like this).

Exchanging discs is no problem for a store, they have a system with distributors and allowances are made for it. I'd really be surprised if a store refused to do it for a recent purchase. Heck, the studio would most likely do it even, for a new release, though they prefer you do it at the retailer.

Anyway, Predator is clearly marked as to format, it's just that some of us were surprised that FS was an option, so neglected to check as usual. Part of the "problem" is that we just don't discuss non-OAR versions here, so some of us may have gotten into the (correct) mindset that they don't exist. I'm sure that this probably happened to numerous people and there'll be lots of returns, so next time the format will be on the front again. And if it's on the front the shelf-stockers will notice it and are more likely to separate versions.

I don't buy any DVD unless I see Widescreen enhanced on the back.

Guess it's a good thing you don't collect any movies made prior to 1952...
