Paul W.S. Anderson Responds to 'Alien vs Predator'
There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding Paul Anderson's Alien vs Predator, which hit theaters last week. Whether it's on IMDB or right here at Mr. Disgusting's review, people either hated the film or loved it. But what everyone really wants to know is what was with all the talk of the movie not being completed and why is it rated PG-13? If you read on, all of your questions will be answered by the director himself Paul W.S. Anderson...
LAgrappleguy writes in the following (also posted on IMDB):
The first subject that came up, no thanks to me, was the length and PG-13 rating.
So here it is, from the horses mouth.
About the studio's cutting of the film, which he had no control over, he said, and I quote, "All of the best scenes were cut." Anderson was obviously very annoyed at the way the film was released. However, this was not purely because of the PG-13 limitation, which incidentally, the studio enforced THREE WEEKS before the release date! It was always going to be R until then. Part of the reason for the cutting was that some of the effects were not ready by the time the release date came around. The effects team had very little time to do anything.
As far as the content that was cut, apparently we see all those who die, die on screen, but he also said that there is a sub-plot that we will have to wait for on DVD. Yes there will be an R-rated Director's cut DVD although they don't know the release date yet.

Be sure to follow the link and read the rest of the story, several interesting bits about the film (and what was cut) are discussed.

I'm sure many of us knew that as soon at the PG-13 theatrical rating was made official, this was going to be the strategy.
I'm sure studios probably figure with certain releases to cut the movie so it gets a less restrictive rating for theaters. Then they can sell even more DVDs later on with the "R-Rated Version. Contains [insert adjective] extra footage not seen in theaters." banner.

Don't expect it before the first theatrical version arrives on DVD. And this is the same guy who said a new cut of Event Horizon was coming and that was YEARS ago!

And you believe, at heart, everyone's a killer...

so is the movie 92 minute long WITH credits or not?
The "offical" FOX claim is 101m, but a couple of reviewers with watches noted that the end credits roll starts after only 87 minutes...

BBFC lists the runtime as 100m 39s and they are accurate when it comes to this stuff.

"AvP" made more in it's first wekend than "Event Horizon" made in it's entire theatrical run. Also it's only been fairly recently that Paramount has shown a willingness to re-release DVDs as SE's.
Perhaps FOX will release both the theatrical & director's cut at the same time? Universal is doing that with "Dawn of the Dead."

I am not sure where I read it, possibly www.bloody-disgusting.com - but I can not wait for the Director's Cut. My family and I may be the only people in the world who thought the movie was ok, and I know the director's cut will make a lot of people happy. I read that 30+ minutes were cut out, so it can only get better.

In my never-humble opinion, Fox should follow the model they set up with the Alien Quadrilogy set and present both theatrical and director's cuts on the same disc via seamless branching.
There are three things I can't stand: 1) Intolerance; and 2) People who can't count.
