Network

Does anyone have the Network DVD? How is it? Do you recommend it, or is it better to wait - and hope - for a special edition?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I've not seen it for a few years since I watched everything available from the AFI 100 - we run a full review list from that chart - but I was decidedly unimpressed. I thought the picture was bad and the sound acceptable and that's it. Here's the link if you're curious:

I think the DVD's pretty good. I've seen "Network" several times theatrically over the years, and it never looked all that great. The picture was always a little soft, fairly grainy and muted. The disc actually looks better than any of the prints I've seen.

The sound is nothing spectacular, but it's clean and clear, which is all you really need for a film that's so dialogue-driven.

I just picked this up a few weeks ago during DDD's 20% off sale. It's not great, but not horrible either. It is OAR and anamorphic. Andre described the picture accurately. It's watchable.

If you can get a good price, go for it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality...

I picked up the Network 2 disc special edition.
This new version seems to frame out information at the bottom of the screen. (I noticed this when Dunaways quick nude scene comes on and her chest is completely framed out.)

i don't remember any Dunaway nudity on the original disc (which would have been my first attentive viewing of the film), so when i watched the new SE i didn't notice anything amiss.
is it possible that you are going by open matte viewings of the movie in comparing the new disc?

issuses of framing or misframing aside, this is a substantial improvment over the earlier release.

Here is the link to the HTF review of the new edition of Network. Further discussion of this release should go there:
