Anyone wary of buying DVDs with HD/Blu-ray just around the bend?
For the last couple of months, I've started to become a little more practical in my DVD purchasing habits. While I still purchase titles regularly, I found myself a little reluctant to make big purchases, like collections, or imports. I guess what brought this on was my reading of various articles on HD-DVD and/or Blu-ray DVD, and how it's supposed to be hitting the market within a year or so.
I've been a DVD enthusiast for over six years, ever since I bought my first player in Feb. of 1998. My collection of discs is probably around 400 titles. Since I'm also a home theater junkie, I definitely plan on moving up to the HD format. The thought of eventually replacing my entire library is a bit overwhelming, to say the least. But, I guess that's just the way it goes with technology. I'm sure once I have a huge HD-DVD collection, ultra-definition will be ready to launch.
For me, it used to be that every time I picked up a DVD to look at it, I thought, "Am I going to have to double-dip for a better version soon?". Now I also ask myself, "Do I want to buy this now knowing I'll be replacing it in the future?"
So, do any of my fellow enthusiasts feel the same way about making new DVD purchases?
