I like to cover art, and I love this film. But as it has been stated numerous times in this thread already, it's not something you watch a whole lot, I'll hold off 'till the SE.
Also: I would also like to thank the thread Moderators for maintaining civility.

Film Freak Central has a review up. FFC
According to the review A/V quality is very good (super-bit ref.). They give a WS/FF warning at the end of the review saying that the version is only noted on the back of the packaging. The option to view with no subs is there.

I'm thinking a double-dip might be in order. I actually haven't checked this thread out, but from my memories of the Official Discussion Thread, I am sure it's been fun in here.
Beautiful film, and I am interested to see what extras might be in store for next year. Until then, it'll be nice to have this film on my shelf.
Thanks for the discussion,
Chuck

I have double-dipped on films of much less quality so this is a no-brainer to do so. With the PQ and SQ being so highly rated and the fact that is one of the most powerful and moving fims ever, I'll be there on street date, for both.
This will be one of the very few films I will watch every extra on.
Thanks for that link Brett.

Hoping they’ll “blurb” you on the cover, Ron?

Brett,
Other than the av parts, that review was terrible.

DVD Review has posted their review of The Passion of the Christ up on their website and given it a great review. Even with just the film and its preview trailer, it's still a must-own DVD, according to the review.
While I'm sure it will do exceedingly, abundantly well beyond anything we could hope for or imagine (to borrow from an appropriate verse), my wife and I plan on waiting for the Special Edition version when it comes out (and even DVD Review has said that it will be bound to happen down the road).

\"Attention all personnel. Tonight\'s movie is a holdover from last week and will be shown right after supper, which is also a holdover from last week.\"

I'm extremely skeptical about that review. I received a non-retail screener copy of Passion - it had the movie in anamorphic widescreen but only Dolby 2.0 audio, with no 5.1 options. Notice how DVD Review doesn't mention the existence of two audio tracks in their article?
Fox told me they're not sending out copies different than the one I got, so unless DVD Review got theirs some other way, they have the same unrepresentative product I do. In other words, the review DOESN'T give information that corresponds to the DVD you'll be able to buy - they likely faked the comments on the audio...

Hmmm, that review at DVD Review also indicates a trailer as an extra whereas the FFC review states there is no trailer. Could be an honest mistake I suppose.
Note: The FFC review says that their disc was the Canadian version but I wouldn't think it would differ in that regard.

"IMO."
For me, Film Freak Central's is probably the best write-up on the movie that I've read. Given the inherent IMOness of any review, and responses to any review, their review accurately reflects my experience with the film (and some of its more fervent fans). In fact, I wouldn't have been quite as generous.
As is typical with Walter Chaw and Bill Chambers, the review is also sharp, cogent, observant, informed, and a pleasurable read. And they addressed a point that should not be, but typically has been, ignored: by the very nature of Gibson's movie, adherents to the fundamental Christian beliefs may tend to view it with certain filters up, like watching a 3-D movie with the glasses necessary to achieve its intended effect. Non-believers are likely to have a completely different, though no less valid, experience. Each side will probably believe that theirs is the more objective one. "Freed from societal context" is a key point, and Chaw & Chambers should be commended for noting it.
Given what we read nearby in this thread, whether that review accurately reflects what will hit the street soon is an interesting point. Why would studios distribute review-bound screeners that don't represent the full consumer experience, which is, if I'm not mistaken, the primary purpose of DVD review sites?

I have no doubt that the Film Freak review comes from a retail version of the disc. I won't say 100% that the DVD Review article isn't, but for reasons I already expressed, I strongly doubt it. The picture quality may be the same for both the screener DVD and the final one, though I don't even know about that. Obviously the audio won't be the same since the screener lacked any 5.1 mixes.
Why send out these non-representative screeners? You tell me and we'll both know. Even THOSE were a pain to get - Fox just isn't sending out much for Passion. I keep my fingers crossed they'll eventually ship more representative discs, but this isn't connected to anything they've told me - all I've heard is that the non-retail screeners are all they have and that's that...
