Considering the following a RUMOR....Freddie Mercury tribute concert re-release on CD/DVD as the "complete" show.

(found this on another forum)

Quote:
Being a big Guns N' Roses fan, I was just browsing one of their message boards and found this:
"Queen plan on releasing the complete uncut show on dvd & cd sometime next year!
This will include all openings by Metallica, Extreme, Def Leppard & of course GNR!"
Then someone asked where they got the info...
"Jim Jenkins the co president of the offical international Queen fan club i asked him last Saturday at the convention!
they are working on trying to get this sorted for a 2005 release due to the massive disapointment of the previous dvd release!"

First, Jim Jenkins is not the "co-president of the official international Queen fan club" and second, Robert Plant has repeatedly asked that "Innuendo" never be released (and to date it has not, laserdisc/VHS/DVD, no "Innuendo.") So I'm playing doubting Thomas on this one.

The official Queen fan club convention was held recently. Greg Brooks played some more rare material and some news tidbits came about, here are some fan reports;

Quote:
Great stuff played this year it seems, according to this guy from the WWRY site:
by Mr. Fahrenheit:

"This year Jim Beach gave him permission to play archive material provided he spoiled the recording by talking over it. We got to hear some great material including 2 extra vocal sections of "Somebody To Love" which were never used and have never been heard before.

A very strong warning was given that if anything he played this year was bootlegged, Queen Productions would NEVER allow Greg to play anything else at the convention again.

We also got to see a large number of unpublished Mick Rock photos as well as a couple of tracks from the forthcoming DVD release of Live At Milton Keynes, including "Sheer Heart Attack", which has never been seen before, unless you were at that concert.
1. Full Milton Keynes DVD. original Tube broadcast 75 minutes + 49 minutes unseen concert footage. No idea on extras.

2. Box set isn't even on the horizon. Greg hasn't been working on it, he says, so we may as well give up. I certainly have.

3. the "Coming Soon" demo was a distorted guitar instrumental. The chords for the chorus made it very obvious.

4. I didn't hear anything about MIH 2. I did hear a rumour of "Face It Alone" getting the MIH treatment and being a single.

5. GVH3 doesn't seem to be an active project either. Lupton seemed to feel that they didn't have enough material.

6. Older DVDs than '79 seem unlikely, given the lack of "recognisable hits" for the record company to see it as commercially viable.

I'm sure *some* of the above comments are also filled with fan opinion.

Not enough material for "Greatest Video Hits 3" DVD? Who are they kidding? If that truly was the case then why in the world would they have left off the "Innuendo" videos from "GVH2"? There is PLENTY of stuff, videos AND bonus material.

Thanks for the updates Michael! In response to:

2. What a jerk. We've been hearing about this thing since the Freddie box came out. That really angers me. They've gotten our hopes up about it so much, and now...ugh.
4. No need for MIH2.
5. Great. So we're not going to get the Innuendo videos, the MIH videos (they're available on R2 but not R1), or the "Under Pressure (Rah Mix)" video? They should have put them on GVH2 then. That bugs me because "Innuendo," "The Show Must Go On," and "I'm Going Slightly Mad" are great videos.
6. Hello? Most of their hits are from the 70s!

Oh, and I don't think we'll see a new Freddie concert DVD. There's no need for it. CD, maybe, but not necessary.

Yeah the box sets just aren't a priority right now. Afterall, Bolivia needs that damn musical too!

Re: GVH3 DVD. It'll happen, bank on it. Either they're blowing smokes up our asses or a fan misinterpreted what was said. There's no way they'll just forget about all the videos from '89 on.

Yes, I mean to say, Bohemian Rhapsody was a complete flop, whilst Hot Space was an amazing success. So therefore we can have the Milton Keynes concert promoting the latter, but the BBC's Christmas Eve show (which is in perfectly reasonable condition) from the Night at the Opera period isn't going to be released.

Face facts - Queen fans exist in sufficient numbers to make practically any Queen product a commercial viability. Are they *honestly* saying that the pre-1979 concerts are such poor technical quality that the fans wouldn't buy them?

It's kind of surprising about the seventies product not being "commercial" enough to release. At this point, I would guess that the majority of people buying Queen product are fanatics who would buy ANYTHING to help their collection, and not the casual fan who already has three Greatest Hits CDs and two DVDs available to satisfy their "fix". As long as the sound/video is better than the bootlegs I've seen, I'm standing in line for it!

I've loved the Queen releases I've picked up so far. I don't have the Freddie Tribute DVD, but part of that is because it is incomplete. If they were to re-release it complete, I would definitely own it (Gotta have my Spinal Tap appearance!! "We cut our set list down to just one song...because Freddie would have wanted it that way.")

Can't wait to pick up the new show in the fall.

Some news for ya'll.....

Quote:
FORTHCOMING QUEEN RELEASES
The next American release will be a re-tooled Greatest Hits album, out in August 2004.

The next Queen DVD will be the Milton Keynes show, entitled "Queen On Fire At The Bowl", expected pre-Christmas.

Also for Christmas Release - Live Aid DVD and the studio album of "46664"

The information is from Brian May's web site.

The new "Hits" CD apparently will include a rare edit of "I'm In Love With My Car" and teaser tracks from Milton Keynes.

The title of the Keynes concert DVD is pretty awful if you ask me. A non-diehard fan might think it was a Queen concert in Mexico

Finally, Brian must have some inside info concerning Live Aid. Last I heard Bob Geldof was going to auction the rights off to the highest bidder and then they would have to secure the rights to all the songs. Not one news source has even hinted that the DVD would be coming out so soon. Color me doubtful.

BTW, in case anyone didn't know, NBC aired the the "Saturday Night Live" episode early this morning that Queen performed on in 1982 (yes, the whole show.)

This article comes from www.dvdexclusive.com which you have to be a member to access. The bold highlighted paragraph indicates they will choose between making a dvd of either the Billy Joel musical or the Queen musical. Let's hope they pick We Will Rock You! Maybe we can start a letter-writing campaign to pick Queen? Any thoughts?

DVD CLEAR CHOICE FOR LIVE CONCERTS
Promoter Clear Channel joins home video world
By Susanne Ault 7/19/2004

LAS VEGAS--Concert promotion powerhouse Clear Channel Entertainment will be striking its first notes in the home video world this year.

CCE will adapt content from its 26,000 annual events, also including theater, fine arts and sports productions, into DVD titles.

Expected to head first to retailers in the fourth quarter will be a documentary based on the military precision flying team Blue Angels. CCE is also launching a national live tour featuring the team this October.

Also in the fall/winter pipeline will be one theater title. The company is choosing between on-going Billy Joel musical Moving Out and We Will Rock You: The Queen Musical, based on the flamboyant rock band legend.

The latter will bow in Las Vegas in August and later on Broadway in the fall. Both musicals are CCE productions.

"The fact that the company that is responsible for mounting all of these shows is now in the business of turning them into DVD projects is very exciting," said Steve Sterling, senior VP CCE TV, which has oversight of CCE home video operations. "We're the world's largest live event company, [and] I'm helping CCE become more of a media company."

Sterling told VB [Video Buisness] that he should announce distribution partners within the next few weeks. Since CCE works with such a diversified array of properties, the company is fittingly choosing a mix of distributors.

CCE would team with two major studios and three independents for its DVD titles, he said.

"It's going to take a lot of specialists. Doing freestyle motocross and doing Queen--the same company won't have the same strengths," said Sterling, who joined CCE six months ago from Eagle Rock Entertainment division Eagle Vision.

Another live event CCE is planning to leverage onto DVD is its Treasures of the Vatican arts tour. Aiming to introduce mainstream crowds to religious artifacts, Treasures will wind through large arenas and exhibition halls--rather than museums--in 25 U.S. markets this fall.

CCE also is in negotiations with record labels and musicians to soon release concert DVDs. Classic Broadway musicals should also arrive from CCE as well.

Clear Channel Communications, CCE's parent, is a market leader in radio and outdoor advertising. Sterling intends to take full advantage of that wide reach in promoting CCE's DVD product.

"We'll have substantial impact across retail," said Sterling, adding that CCE will target mass merchants as well as specialty outlets.

As far as concerns that DVD product might cannibalize CCE's live shows, Sterling shook his head, and explained, "The reality is that they promote each other. And nothing beats the live experience."

Sterling is especially excited about the coming rollout of high-definition DVD players. Theater titles, in particular, "will have high-def appeal," he said. With these next-generation players on the horizon, "the timing is really right for that."

Bottom line, Sterling thinks CCE has a ready-made consumer base for its DVD titles.

"We sell 72 million tickets a year," he said. "That's a strong constituency to deal with."
