"The Animation Show" is a collection of animated shorts that was originally released as a US tour by Don Hertzfeldt and Mike Judge. Here's what thedigitalbits.com has to say about the set:

Quote:
I have two picks of the week. The first is The Animation Show: Volume One. Based on the successful theater revue created by animation greats Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeld, this DVD collects a vast majority of the shorts featured in the theater presentation (save for the ones that may already be on DVD in other forms, like Hertzfeld's Rejected and Tim Burton's Vincent). The DVD is huge as far as I'm concerned, and does a great service for both filmmakers and fans of cartoon shorts. This first volume gives us some really wonderful animation along with nice extras including audio commentaries from some of the filmmakers, deleted material, pencil tests, art galleries, storyboards and making-of explanations. But it's all about the toons with this set, and considering this release is coming from animators, there's a lot of love packed on this disc. Get yourself a copy today.

The shorts found on the disc is as follows:

Welcome to The Show/Intermission in the Third Dimension/The End of the Show and Billy's Balloon, by Don Hertzfeldt
Mt. Head (Atama Yama), by Koji Yamamura
The Brother/Cousin/Uncle-trilogy, by Adam Elliot
Parking, by Bill Plympton
The Adventures of Ricardo, by Corky Quakenbush
Moving Illustrations of Machines, by Jeremy Solterbeck
La Course a L'Abime, by Georges Schwizgebel
The Cathedral (Katedra), by Tomek Baginski
Fifty Percent Grey, by Ruari Robinson
Early Pencil Tests and other Experiments, by Mike Judge
Aria, by Pjotr Sapegin
Bathtime in Clerkenwell, by Aleksey Budovskiy
The Rocks (Das Rad), by Chris Stenner, Arvid Uibel and Heidi Wittlinger

I'm really looking forward to this set, hope it'll arrive very shortly.

I saw this in a "theater" (read: college lecture hall). It is very good. the content is quite diverse, and some of it I just didn't 'get.'(Adventures of Ricardo) If you are a fan of independant animation, then you owe it to yourself to pick this up. You have to go to The Animation Show's website if you want it.

I'm a little dissapointed that not ALL of the shorts from the theatrical tour are on the DVD ("Mars and Beyond segment" and "Ident") but the set is never the less very good.

The "Mars and Beyond" was only an excerpt. The full one is 30 minutes and includes other planets and such.

It is in the new Tomorrowland DVD set coming out this month!

I think this set is also available from Amazon -- at least I saw it there yesterday, if I am not mistaken.

It's true, the set will also be available from Amazon. Personally, I think the DVD is worth getting alone for the new Hertzfeldt shorts, plus of course the absolutely wonderful "Billy's Balloon". Morbid humor at it's best!
