I was in my local 99 Cents Only chain store and I noticed that they had some DVDs for sale. Older titles of course, and I saw that they had a Dean & Jerry movie called "At War with the Army" so I picked it up. These movies don't come in snapper cases or anything fancy, just a simple cardboard sleeve that opens where the disc is. The only info about the movie is the awful cover art, a short premise on the back and the title on the disc itself. It does come with chapter stops however.
The transfer for this particular B&W movie isn't that good, certainly doesn't look like they used a very good print for the transfer. But hey, what do you expect for 99 cents?
Some of the other discs I saw were an episode of the Andy Griffith Show, a Dick Van Dyke movie, a John Wayne Western, and some more I can't remember. In the inside sleeve of the DVD there are pictures of other titles available, they include:
Mister Scarface starring Jack Palance
Get Christy Love
They Call Me Trinity
Africa Screams starring Abbott and Costello
The Last Time I Saw Paris
The Beverly Hillbillies
the original Little Shop of Horrors
Beyond Justic starring Rutger Hauer
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Cold Sweat starring Charles Bronson
The Snow of Kilmanjaro
Road to Bali with Hope and Crosby
I just thought I'd give people a heads-up. I think 99 cent DVDs might be a growing trend.
