I’m wondering if anyone who has an OFFICIAL Duel DVD could take a look at these scans I took.

I missed out on buying this title before it was pulled and didn’t want to spend the big-bucks that they were going for on Ebay these last few months.
The prices finally settled down a bit and I was able to pick up a copy for around 40-dollars.
I got the DVD and while it PLAYS fine I suspect it might be a bootleg.

Here’s what I noticed:
The colors on the paper insert are kind of washed out and fuzzy looking.
No security tape on the box seams.
No security tag inside.
The disc itself has no bar code or other numbers on the center hub from the manufacturer.
The silkscreen on the front is full of dust spots and uneven colors.
When the movie starts, the subtitles come on and need to be turned off manually.

Other then that it plays fine and has the DTS track, bonus features and all.
I contacted the seller and they’re offering a full refund if I return it.
Are the bootleg copies really getting this good?
What do you think? Should I just keep it?

Duel has not officially been released, and it's doubtful that materials for the television film still exist for a 5.1 surround mix. The jacket artwork is preliminary.

If it's a fake, it's very good...

This is critical, because like legitmate CD's, there need to be numbers on the layers to trace back to the plant where the discs were manufactured.

Several eBay auctions claim the disc was released, then withdrawn. It is possible that, like Ed Wood and Little Shop Of Horrors, some escaped wholesalers for sale in limited markets.

some copies of this did hit the marketplace, but the lack of proper indicia on the disc itself as well as a slightly fuzzy print job on the insert most likely point to it being a boot of the legit but withdrawn disc.

type on the jacket and insert should be razor crisp.
if not, its most likely been scanned and re-printed.

Giant images have been converted to links. And since this is most probably a bootleg, the thread is being closed consistent with our general policy on such matters.
