From reviews at the Masters Of Cinema site (
http://www.mastersofcinema.com) it seems that MGM have messed up their Ingmar Bergman box. 'Hour Of The Wolf' and 'Shame' have apparently been mastered in a 1.66 ratio, when their correct ratio is 1.37. The result is constant vertical cropping, with the tops of characters' heads being cut off, etc. Also, Persona seems to have been zoomed in, so that the image is cropped on all four sides.
MGM will probably complain that their sales of this set are poor and use it as a justification not to issue foreign-language films on DVD. If they could just take the trouble to get the basics right, they might be pleasantly surprised by the sales. Anyway, I for one won't be buying this set unless MGM acknowledge their mistake and withdraw it for correction.
