Newbie now realizes that not all DVDs are created equal

I just recently got a Sony KP-57WS510 and have been very happy with it thus far.

I'm writing because I'm amazed in the difference in PQ between different DVDs. Everything tended to look execellent on my old 27" JVC, but the 57" really brings out the nuances in the different DVDs.

For example, last night I popped in "Casino" (one of my favorite movies) and was very disappointed with the PQ. I started noticing small artifacts I hadn't noticed before and the image looked like I was watching the movie through a sieve with grainy, washed out colors... ugh!. The text in the opening credits looked VCD-like in quality. I can only hope they re-issue this movie in a better transfer!

Then I started up "Red Dragon" and was very impressed with the PQ. Colors were lush, fine details were visible and the picture as a whole was much more immersive.

Here's to another newbie coming to the realization that not all DVDs are created equal!!

Which is also why those of us with FP systems with +100" screens are pacing back and forth waiting for the HiDef DVD format war to end. Or at least for the studios to start pressing HiDef DVDs of any format.
