Bridge on the River Kwai: Limited Edition packaging

Am I wrong in thinking that this DVD originally came in one of those keep cases that looks like a book? I think it might have been made of cardboard. Am I right or am I just imagining this?

The one I just bought is a regular plastic keep case.

No, you're absolutely right. I have the "book" version. Made of glossy cardboard, with cheap plastic inside to house the disc.

Thanks Philip. I knew I wasn't imagining this.

So what do you think of the "book" case? Would you say it's worth pursuing one? Is it showing any signs of wear and tear or of not wanting to close properly as those kinds of cases are prone to do?

UPC 0 43396 05747 0

It's made to look like wood and well worth it, IMHO. One of the jewels of my collection.

I ordered this DVD about a month ago and it came packaged in a keepcase. I guess the book case is OOP.

Well--that's the same UPC that I have on my keepcase Matt. I think Adam's right about this being OOP. I wonder if it had anything to do with the difficulty people were apparently having with the spindles that held the DVDs in place?

Yes, the spindles are a real pain in the backside. The case itself is very sturdy (unlike any other cardboard case I've seen), and mine is still in excellent condition.

As to whether it's worth pursuing the original, that's your call. On the shelf it looks like a keepcase, nothing very special spine-wise. It isn't nearly as nice as the limited-edition fabric cover for Lawrence of Arabia - but it's still nice.

Isn't the keepcase version just a single disc. The book version I have is a 2 Disc set.
