DVD IGN is showing a release of The Music Man set for November 11th.
Does anyone know if this is the Matthew Broderick version that aired on ABC television? I'm not sure there's any reason to re-issue the Robert Preston film.
There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I do wish they'd re-release the real version, from 1962. The video on the DVD isn't all it could be.

Nope...I watched it on a friend's 100" projection screen and decided to never do that again.
It's been a while, but I believe it was a edge-enhancement mess at that size.

On larger screens the Music Man film does indeed betray too much edge enhancement. But on my 32 XBR it isn't too bad. By the way, although I like Mr. Broderick, the film is much, much better.

The 1962 film is a good candidate for one of those nice 2-disc Warner special editions. I'd upgrade the current disc for an improved transfer.

Would you folks be interested in a review of the (1.33:1 4x3) Broderick version? I recieved it and hadn't decided if I was going to put it in line to review or not.
BTW, agreed that an edge-enhancement-free DVD of the 1962 Preston version would be welcome. That's one of the definitive discs to show to folks who "can't see all that EE everyone's talking about"!

It's another one of those 16x9 discs that they don't tell you is 16x9, just like Eloise. I can *almost* guarantee it. At least that's what me and Luke think.

Talking about the Broderick version?
Nope...it's 1.33:1 4x3. Put it in the DVD player the same night I watched Eloise to "test it out"...it's as 4x3 as they come. 
Oh well. Was is shown anywhere in (WS) HD?

I read an old post at AVSForum that stated that ABC showed previews for "The Music Man" the week prior that were HD, but then the broadcast was in SD 4:3 only. Doesn't make much sense.
