To me, season 2 seemed like there was a huge gap in quality between the "A" story and everything else. The "A" story was great (most of the time), but the whole Kim Bauer plotline was some of the worst stuff on tv last year, in my opinion. I've never seen such a huge clash of quality in one tv show. The Kim Bauer stuff seemed like the writers were playing a game, trying to see how insane of a situation they could get her in, then see later if they could get her out of it.

Spoiler:
The cougar stuff was just so unbelievably hilarious. With the show ending and Kim just sitting in the middle of a forest caught in a friggin' trap. That's some funny stuff. Only to be rescued by a loopy SURVIVALIST who ended up bringing shades of Grease 2 to the proceedings with the whole "trapped in the bunker" thing. I was waiting for him to break out into a rendition of "Let's Do it for Our Country". But, hey, he got Kim into a tight tank top. Anyone notice how the survivalist rescued Kim? He opened the trap. Too bad Kim didn't think of that.

Then, let's move on to the David Palmer stuff. Geez. Let's pray that we never have a David Palmer for President if something like that ever happens. How much of that day did he spend actually focused on the situation at hand?

Spoiler:
I loved the "Survivor" type vote where his cabinet voted him out of office because they disagreed with his decision. The only thing missing was Jeff Probst. "The cabinet has spoken. It's time for you to leave." It was great how they show this videotape of Palmer interrogating Harris Yulin, with everything backing him up cut out. The response to "where's the part where he admits everything"? "That's all they sent us." Ok... Of course, they never saw Palmer leave the room on that tape... wasn't like it was obvious that it had been edited.

And to say the whole wrap up was disappointing would be an understatement.

Spoiler:
A scheme to blow up LA to provoke a war so that.... gas prices will rise?

Season 1 was just so much tighter. The Kim Bauer plot had NOTHING to do with the overall story, which was a huge mistake. Everything was connected in the first season and it worked so much better. It was rough being caught up in what was going on with Jack Bauer, than have to cut to Kim running from
Spoiler:
a crazy child/wife beater/murderer, the police, a cougar, a survivalist, and eventually being part of a hostage situation.

I swear, Kim's plotlines were written with Mad Libs.

LOL!

Spoiler:
Maybe season 2 didn't so much Jump The Shark as it Jumped The Cougar!

You're right about the subplots being incredibly weak. I'd tape the show and even fast forwarding through that silliness was annoying... And you know you're in trouble if you've got the urge to skip something during 24!

Well for season two, hadn't they fired the main person who produced season one? The person was responsible in part for the excellent series Wiseguy?

(The above is an example of someone too lazy to check the net for the facts. I recall "Teri Bauer" revealing some of this when she was steamed about the changes being made for season two).

The Kim Bauer plot
Spoiler:
had NOTHING to do with the overall story

i have only watched the first 2 dvd's so far and they have been excellent. i never saw the end of the last ep on dvd 2 coming.

and regarding that quote. it should have been blacked.
i'm sorry that you were dissapointed with some aspects of the show , but so far i like it, and don't want any info no matter how slight.

i thought it would be safe to come in considering the title of the thread.

the starter of this thread said, right in the title ,....no spoilers!

No one was fired from season 1. The creators of the show and writing team remained the same. You might be referring to Stephen Hopkins who directed a lot of episodes in Season 1. He left because he wanted to go back to making feature movies.

As for Leslie Hope (the actress who played Teri) I have never heard anything about her being upset about anything.

Tony,

I apologize - I didn't even consider that to be a spoiler, but can see how it could be. Personally, I had assumed the Kim Bauer storyline to be separate right from the first episode. It just seemed obvious that a domestic violence plotline wouldn't be tied to a terrorist attack.

Given everything else in season 2, though, that was probably giving them too much credit.

A friend of mine convinced me to watch 24. I saw a few episodes of Season Two, and became hooked until the "Sum Of All Fears" sellout. I will never watch the show again, just as I will never watch another film based on a Tom Clancy novel. Integrity has value. Both these franchises sold out their integrity in the name of political correctness. This is too bad, as 24 had established a compelling formula. It could have been a contender.

Comparing 24 to The Sum of All Fears is borderline blasphemy in my book. 24 is arguably the most entertaining show on TV while watching The Sum of All Fears should be considered a form of torture. There is no comparison between the two!

"24" > Sum of all Fears... Not sure about Ben Affleck being the new Harrison Ford.

Would you guys still watch "24" if it was not in real time format?

I think everyone here will enjoy this "Kimcentric" review of "24" S2 at DVD Talk (Cine-Shlock-O-Rama column):

http://www.dvdtalk.com/cineschlock/column/index.html

It's amazing to me that the total airtime given to Kim in the entirety of Season 2 was barely over two hours. It seemed like so much more...
