It's Good to Laugh

But am I getting a bit long in the tooth for it? Here I am at 40 and I just picked up the Bullwinkle set tonight. I suprised to see that these toons still make me bust a gut.
I really appreciate how Smart a "Dumb" cartoon it was. I love when in "Jet Fuel" Bullwinkle refers to the invisible moon men to Rocky as "Just like a Congressman" this stuff was Great. The R&S in the corner is not as bad as I feared and I'm just having a great time grinning and Laughing. Oh to be 12 again.

I know what you mean.
Every time I hear that Moose start his spiel, it's ROFL time. ......

"Today's lesson...."

(Who does the Bullwinkle voice anyway? I know June Foray did Rocky. But I never knew who did B-Winkle J.)

His delivery is a big part of it but some of the lines are just excellent its very well written for a Childrens show

The R&S in the corner is not as bad as I feared...

Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to buy this for that very reason.

You know, Fred, if you keep your sense of humor like you do, you just might make it.

Well, I've got a dissenting opinion if anyone wants it...

I was thrilled to get R&B on DVD, and was expecting a fun trip down nostalgia lane. What I discovered instead was that:

1) the show was not as sophisticated as I remembered it
2) the animation was pretty bad, even in the later episodes
3) the amount of repetition from show to show does not suit back-to-back viewing at all
4) the jokes, while clever, fell flat most of the time

I wasn't amused, I was bored silly. I ended up giving the set to a friend.

I wonder if it would work better if they had an alternate version where they edited all the episodes together into complete storylines. Although the recaps did occasionally feature gags that weren't in the original airings, you wouldn't miss much. Probably the entire 40-episode rocket fuel story wouldn't be much longer than an hour, hour and a half.

I am 48 and occasionally will come across some old "Moose 'n Squirrel" cartoons on TV. They are as classic now as they were when I was a kid. It's too bad that the "serial" format that was signature to the series in my youth kinda went by the wayside in the later years.
