I'd really like to know if anyone has definitive
information that this is now policy not to send
out screeners.

It's definitely definitive - they've not sent out screeners to MOST sites since last fall. The last batch I got included
Big Fat Liar.
ET,
Back to the Future and everything else since then... MIA. HTF got stuff for a while, as did DVD File. Guess HTF isn't getting it any more - not sure about DVD File.
No one from Uni themselves told me the policy - they relegated that to the PR company who handles their stuff. The latter still contacts me all the time and wants us to publicize their titles via contests and whatnot, but I refuse. If they can't deign to send some crummy screeners, why should I help them out?
I recently asked a PR rep about the policy again, as I thought it was possible things had changed since last fall. She reiterated: no screeners. Stupidly, they'll let us have copies for contests, but not for screeners. (Why not send the DVDs for both purposes?)
Anyway, this has been their policy for most of us since last fall. Apparently they've spread the attitude toward some others as well. It's stupid and short-sighted, but it's their prerogative, I suppose.

I think that if they don't want their DVDs discussed online we should respect their decision.

I don't. I certainly won't PROMOTE their stuff, but I still think discussion should occur. If they put out a crappy disc, should we ignore that and not discuss it because they don't want us to chat about it?
It's weird - Artisan is arguably the worst of all the different DVD producers, and they send out EVERYTHING to reviewers. Uni generally does a nice job, and they send out NOTHING. I think they honestly believe the publicity they'd get from the different sites doesn't warrant the minimal cost of a screener. (And it's not like they were sending titles to everybody - they were always very tough to crack for screeners. I had a bear of a time ever getting on their list!)
Maybe Jeff's right and they're hoping to avoid bad publicity. However, I believe they DO still send titles to print reviewers - it's just the online community they shun. I'd chalk it up to cheapness, but then again, they offer tons of titles for contests! It's a bizarre little mystery, but in the end, it all finishes the same way: no screeners...
