Hi Dave Mack.

Yes, I would say the set is worth it. While it is very much lacking compared to what we were hoping for, it is certainly worth owning if you like extras, the majority of which were not available on the original bare-bones releases. We may never get uncut versions, I wouldn't be holding my breath wating for Paramount to search their vaults looking for the uncut footage and then ponying up the cash to make special extended cuts, that might never happen.

With this set, you get three director's commentaries, for Parts VI, VII and VIII, and a very interesting cast reunion commentary for Part 3. Not to mention documentary featurettes for all eight movies, theatrical trailers, extended footage from the TV version of "Final Chapter", and work-print footage with commentary of the excised gore from Part VII.

While I was very dissappointeed with how Paramount short-changed us with no uncut versions and other missing extras that should have been included (such as Alice Cooper's music video for "The Man Behind the Mask" starring C.J. Graham as Jason), it's still packed with plenty of features that were not previously available. The amusing cast commentary track for Part 3 and the documentary featurette for "Final Chapter" including interviews with star Corey Feldman and director Joseph Zito, just counting those alone make the set worth it for me.

Thanks guys! I only have the original on DVD. I understand the newer version of the original looks a bit better but is just the R rated cut meaning edited down throat cut scene but original Voorhees beheading back. $4o seems pretty reasonable.

Re: Friday The 13th SEs/Box Set Info Coming on September 19th!?

Sorry to bump such an old (but informative) thread, but...

Apparently, Paramount is planning a new Friday The 13th box set to release around the time the remake hits theaters (Feb. 13th 2009).

I'm guessing a Blu-Ray release of the set is also a possibility.

Of course, we all know that this is going to turn into the whole "we will be getting the unrated versions" thing. I must say, Paramount would have to have some balls to release another boxed set with just the theatrical versions. But, I'm certainly not counting on it either.

Besides that I've found Bloody Disgusting to frequently have incorrect info, I wonder if the uncut versions of all the movies even still exist or if Paramount would even spend the time, effort or money to locate and reincorporate the footage. It'd be great if they did but I'm not getting my hopes.

I do hope that they have Blu-Ray releases though.

Re: Friday The 13th SEs/Box Set Info Coming on September 19th!?

One would think that they really would have to add something of value to get people to buy these again. They could add commentaries to the four films that did not get them in the last boxed set, but I don't think that would be enough of a marketing ploy. They obvious hook is the unrated versions. But like Travis said, it may not even be economically feasible or even possible to do. I'm hoping we'll get them this time because, like I said, it would be pretty ballsy to trot out another boxed set without the unrated versions.

If these will be re-released, I´m really hoping that we´ll get the "Unrated"-versions for certain films. The material is "out there" somewhere, in the vaults. I doubt that I´ll double dip (I have bought these "2 times" already), if the same "R-rated"-versions are just being re-released (which just might happen)..

Joe: Compressed?

Re: Friday The 13th SEs/Box Set Info Coming on September 19th!?

It´s safe to assume all the talking head extras in the world won´t cut it for this forthcoming box set. Paramount I´m sure are well aware the unhappy fanbase and negative word of mouth from some of those involved with the previous set and a few who offered thier services (lack of thourough vault searches, compressed/lower bit rate features with 2 to one side of a dvd penny pinching!! etc).
If we also factor in the accepted norm of unrated versions from most studios these days, and yes even Warner has gotton in on the act. For Para to release them in edited R rated form again, wouldn´t be a smart business desicion at all.

No company would be that ignorant to the power of the internet fanbase such a series has amassed.

Re: Friday The 13th SEs/Box Set Info Coming on September 19th!?

I remember, that during the production of the last "box set", Don May, Jr. (Synapse Films, etc) offered his help of digging the "vaults" of Paramount and finding (well, at least searching) that "unrated"-footage etc. I guess Paramount wasn´t interested back then..

I mean I´m not sure, that is the "unrated"-footage of these films still available, or perhaps lost or something?

Perhaps now it´s the time to re-evaluate? But yes, I´m not holding my breath...

Maybe they will release Part 3 in the field sequential 3-D method? Just kidding. That will never happen.
