I waited to buy the current versions in hope of a nice box-set, and I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do. I wish Paramount would just release some possible pricing ranges, because if it's dirt cheap I'll just wait for the box. Otherwise, I'll just pick up 1-4 (and maybe 5).

The main reason for my disappointment is in regards to the time taken to release this lackluster set. Three years ago it might have not been that big of a deal, but jeez, talk about taking a lot of time to produce nothing of real interest.

I know that Jason ain't exactly Paramount's "crown-jewel" but look at the resurgence of popularity due to Freddy vs. Jason. Jason may not be the most respectable guy at Paramount, but money is money.

Oh well. If anyone wants to get rid of 1-5, shoot me an email.

Here are some of the negative replies from the Friday the 13th site as well as some others sites. A few people made some really funny comments. Unfortunately, I cant post due to naughty language and content.

This whole thing is just turning out to be a complete disastor. I will be staying in tonight. I dont want to run into any disgruntled fans on the street.

Here are some of the comments. These are not mine. No rights for these comments are given or implied. Some have also been edited due to content.

"No uncut versions at all? I'm actually LAUGHING at this news, it is so ridiculous. Didn't this set come to be because of fan demand for uncut versions of the films? So basically, it's just a set where you can get all the films at once and some random extras too?"

"Maybe no one should of said anything. Im glad you have kept us up to date, but I have no intentions of putting money into paramounts multilbillion dollar company for such a (edited) box set."

"HAHAHA No commentary will be recorded for part 1?? How dishonorable.... Shame on you Paramount."

"I agree Joe, I'll focus on the two books instead."

"Honestly why bother? They clearly couldn't deliver what fans had been begging for since before the set was announced, so hey let's interviews everyone & their babysitter who worked on the films, whoopie doo."

"This is Shocking. I won't be buying the set though. Paramount is a Joke!!! A Multi-billion Dollar company can't get 1,2,3 uncut. I'll rent it or maybe borrow it from someone."

"If you think about it... they have spent almost NOTHING on this set... honestly. They filmed a few interviews, tracked down a few of the people connected... recorded a few commentaries, and found a little missing footage. They didn't really do much at all. They're going to end up recycling the footage from the previous films, that's just a given. It's obvious that this set was nothing more than a total cash in. I'm glad I never really raised my expectations for this set. Who wants to bet they won't have trailers on the discs either? Oh well, they're saving me some cash."

"*gag*"

"This is incredibly bad news. This was probably my most anticipated box set of all time, and Paramount has totally messed it up. Does anyone really care about interviews from washed up B movie actors talking about a movie they can barely remember making?"

"Huh?"

"This is it? Pull out the plug, it's all over."

"This news is worse than Jason takes Manhatten."

"Not even Part 1 uncut? Is this a belated April Fools joke?"

"Wow! Look everybody. Part 8 has a gag reel. This set is going to put the Alien box set to shame."

"The ship has sunk and the whole crew has gone down with it. Waste of time."

Those comments were what I was talking about earlier. If nobody cares about "washed up B actors" then why should Paramount re-release "waashed up B movies"? Again, we're getting "some" extras so if fans are still unhappy then they'll just have to boycott a second release. However, how long until they realize that uncut releases might not ever happen? "Fans" became fans due to what is already out there so to stay away from these films because they aren't uncut makes no sense to me.

Once again, how many major films are released uncut or with deleted scenes? Not too many. I'm scared to say it but studios simply didn't know there was going to be a creation called DVD. If they had, I'm sure all of this stuff would have been saved.

If Paramount is telling the truth (and I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt) then there's nothing else that can be done. If this uncut 6 and 7 are from workprints and look horrid then keep them as an extra and out of the film. MGM did this with LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. I think fans understand that film will never see a real uncut release so perhaps we'll have to say that about F13. The deleted scenes in HOUSE were added as an extra due to their horrid shape and I think everyone would agree they shouldn't have been put back in the film.

Michael,

This backlash is from false hope being given by a main studio. It wasnt just some average fan who did this. It was the actual studio. If this set was just announced without any hope given to uncut, none of this would happen.

I really thought the comment about being more interested in the books was funny. It's better in context.

Although, the one who mentions Part 1 has a good point. What excuse could they possibly have for not giving Part 1 uncut when it's available all over the world and they own the rights to it?

It doesn't sound as if Paramount was able to find any of the cut footage on 35mm film. I wouldn't be surprised if what we get is sourced from some low quality tape. Shame. But Paramount can hardly be faulted if they don't have usable elements.

As far as certain films not having extras. Are we forgeting the interviews Paramount shot at the Fangoria con? Granted they're not commentaries, but they can just as well tell the making of a film. 200 minutes of featurettes and documentaries is nothing to sneeze at.

Flipper discs will hopefully ensure a lower price point. Despite how you may fell about the series, this thing isn't going to sell in the millions. Hopefully Peter Bracke's book 'Crystal Lake Memories' will touch on video sales. He's said the numbers aren't what most fans would think. The general public has already bought the earlier versions and most likely won't be buying this new set. Paramount knows this. They couldn't spend large amounts of money on this because it has limited appeal. What they have been able to do sounds very tempting.

Brandon,

I dont think too many people are concerned about a Fango convention judging from all the negative reactions on the sites. It wasnt even on the top 5 list of what people wanted in this set.

It's just like I said. Hardcore fans will eat it up while the rest of us will laugh at this nonsense of a set.

Check out Dvdtalk, Boxofficemojo, Fridaythe13th, etc. The negatives all outweigh the positives and this is only the first day...

Very tempting? Let me guess? Are you a hardcore fan?

As a casual fan who is interested in the films, I dont know whats very tempting about 200 minutes of interviews that I wont ever watch?

Hardcore fans will buy it just to have it even though many of them are also disappointed.

It's the casual base (like myself) that are no sales now. Plus, those hardcore fans that are pe-od (About 40-50% or so judging from reaction.)

Flipper discs? EEK!!!!

Damaged more easily, scratches easier, and no cover art.

Also, how can Paramount not find a 35MM Print of the first film when they are readily available and when two DVD's of an uncut Part 1 already exist?

There is just no way of getting around Part 1 not being uncut, because it exists and everyone knows it does.
I held out on buying the original discs for this. What a waste of time.

How is it that The Burning, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Nightmare on Elm Street (Laserdisc), etc. were all able to be restored if it's so costly?

Even "Mountain of the Cannibal God" was released restored and uncut. How many people have ever heard of this???

Are you telling me that Mountain of the Cannibal God sold much better than the F13 series???

The Burning Uncut and Restored VHS tape I bought from Amazon/MGM for only $8.99 a few years ago. The transfer was very good for VHS.

How can Anchor Bay restore a movie and charge only $12.99 if it's so costly to restore? How can MGM do the same thing?

I mean granted the F13th series isnt the biggest fanbase alive, but it has a stronger fanbase than the likes of Silent Night, Deadly Night, etc. It also made much, much more money theatrically and on video as well. Next to Nightmare on Elm Street, it was the most successful horror series of the 80's by far, even surpassing all the Halloween sequels of the 80's in grosses.

Many horror movies that bombed (some that didnt even pass a couple million dollars) are getting better treatment.

It's very simple. This is a rush job (nothing more, nothing less), to squeeze more cash out of the hardcore fans for minimal effort.

Paramount really didnt invest anything into this set it seems. What was the budget? $10 and a bag of Popcorn for the director of Part 8???

Ryan:

You are right on the money. The regular Paramount defenders will stick up for them no matter what they do, but there's no denying that Paramount dropped the ball on this thing BIG time. Whatever the condition was of the cut footage on some of the sequels is concerned - that's one issue and maybe it's OK that this footage wasn't able to be restored into the actual films (but it's still debatable on this as well). But what's the deal with Part 1 still being cut when the uncut version is so readily available? There's absolutely no excuse for this. Paramount basically promised something BIG to fans with this box set and they can't even give us the uncut print of part 1 that's been released in other regions? Are they insane?

I'm a casual fan of the series. I have absolutely no interest in 200 hours of stupid interviews, Fangoria convention footage, and talking heads blabbing on and on about what a great series of films these were. How can they not even give us the first film uncut which is so readily available - if nothing else? Unbelievable.

Maybe Paramount is doing all of this because they really just want to clear out all their left-over stock of the old DVD's. Those old bare-bones DVD's sure look more attractive at this point, that's for sure. Great marketing gimmick! Announce a crappy flipper-disc box set so that fans will pick up the old single-disc releases instead. Too many of those laying around anyway. Maybe those guys over at Paramount are smarter than they appear to be ...... Nah, I don't think so.

First they cancel DANGER DIABOLIK (supposedly to ADD extra features - ya, right, I'll believe that when I see it) and then this. We ARE talking about the studio which lists the *MOVIE* itself as the only 'special feature' on the back of most of its releases along with NOTHING else. So I guess we shouldn't be surprised by any of this.

Pamela's not very happy finding out all her uncut glory will be left out in the cold.

P.S. I must come to my senses and stop listening to anything Kane Hodder has to say as well. He also mentioned a good chance of Part 7 being uncut.

He is probably out to get the fanbase with false info since his banning from Freddy vs Jason... lol.

And whats up with the Director of Part 4 saying uncut footage has been found of Part 4 when it's not even true?

And what happened to that ending of Part 3 that was believed to have been found?

Damn, I hate rumors and falsehood.

Hey guys!!!

Need something to laugh at and ease the pain?

You must check out this horrible Jason mask someone tried to sell on Ebay. It looks like a paper plate with tears and cigarette burns.

He also said it is a Part 2 mask. Even though Jason doesnt wear a Hockey mask in Part 2. This must be a deleted scene.

He also is selling a Michael Myers mask that is just as bad.
