Ron,
The Software forum won't be the same without your reviews. Thanks for all the time you put in to give forum membership an early look at some of our most anticipated DVD's. Some of the very best reviews on the web IMO.

Take Care,
Dalton

Even though my wallet suffered at times, I really loved the reviews. I found yours to be the most consistent and reliable of any reviews on line or off. Thanks!
Todd

I've had a love/hate relationship with Ron's reviews over the years. Love for all the obvious reasons (read all posts above) and hate because whenever I wanted to read a review, I'd have to wait a long time while each and every pic loaded (56k). But in the end, it was always worth it. Now that I have a high-speed connection, Ron retires. Damn, it isn't fair.

Ron, thanks for all your hard work. And as I mentioned on another thread, purchasing a DVD sight-unseen solely based on your Highly Recommended tag is probably the main reason I'll miss your reviews.

Ron tended to downplay the significance of his DVD reviews, but I have to concur with the consensus here- they really were some of the best and most enjoyable reviews on the net.

Ron,

I don't consider myself a hardcore member of the forum (I.E.: No one knows who I am!) and we haven't personally spoken (money prevents me from attending the trips) but I do have to say this...

I found your lack of confusing technical jargon as well as the everyman quality to your writing, not to mention the screenshots (one of the few reviewers to use them, no offense to DVDFile or the Bits) very, very helpful. I think your reviews were some of the best on the Net and, personally, I think you put yourself down a few times too many. I don't think any of us read your reviews for fancy vocabulary words. We just wanted the facts and you provided, every single time, and usually with charming (and contagious) enthusiasm. Thankfully, my wallet hasn't suffered too much (oh, it will!) but I will miss your reviews. Truth be told, I always read the File and the Bits first (I found them before I found the HTF) but your work was a valuable resource.

Hope to see you around the Forum and good-luck with everything else!

Let's hope someday there might be a suitable arrangement for the occasional review from him--a total shutoff is a bit disheartening. Ron's reviews were insidiously refreshing, down to earth and accessible (do I hear an echo of voices going "One of us! One of us!?"). The joy behind his reviews was apparent. And our loss is palpable.

I would really like it if he reviewed the MAJOR releases. Like Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings.
