Check out the Treasure Planet insert, and you will see them explaining 16x9 in some good light.

Now, if they can just transfer that knowledge to their catalog titles

Two pics(that are the same), one WIDECREEN(1.66:1) and the other FULLSCREEN(1.33:1)

At the top is says
Film presented in the aspect ratio as origiannly created
Treasure Planet is presented in widescreen(1.66:1)
On standard TV's there will be black horizontal bars on the top and bottom of the TV.

Allowing you to see the EXPANSIVENESS and FULL PICTUE from side to side.

at the bottom of the two pics

DO you see the difference between Widescreen versus the Fullscreen images??

If you prefer to see this film in widescreen, use the zoom feature on the remote.

Atleast they are now teaching, and saying if you don't like it, use your zoom feature.

Now just transfer that knowledge to catalog DVD's

They did this with "Beauty and the Beast" as well, calling the widescreen AR the intended AR and that if people want "full screen" (GOD, I despise that term!) they need to use any zoom funtion of their DVD player.

But they didn't do this with Stitch.

It's just nice to see them doing this and not a one time thing.

I also hate the use of the words "FULLSCREEN" when in regards to 16x9

Yes, that title "fullscreen" has led to some serious confusion among consumers.

Many friends of mine who understand and appreciate the idea of "widescreen" DVDs giving them all the picture actually end up buying "full screen" DVD versions because they think that the "full" term means they're getting the "whole picture...like the widescreen movie shows".

Ugh!

At least they are explaining it on some releases. Now, let's hope they do this for a movie that is 2.35:1!!

I also wish they would stop calling it full screen.

Can't they revise the term to square screen or P&S or something?

My vote for all non-OAR titles would be "wrongscreen", but the folks in marketing don't seem to like it.
