Now for some bad news....

As far as we know, there will be no Deleted Scenes on the DVD this time around.

But some redeeming Good news:

There will be a special edition After Indy IV!

Guaranteed double dip! DOH!

Sorry, I got it confused with the failed Indiana Jones 4 script about cleaning up Three Mile Island unit 2 called "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Plasma Arc".

Did you hear they might be bundling "Lord of the Rings" with the Indiana set?

They're calling it "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Orc"

Gottcha!

I'm not in love with double-dipping, but I usually end up selling my original on EBay which gives me enough or close to enough to buy the new version. Based on that logic - and in addition to this (Raiders) being my favorite movie of all time - I have NO problem double dipping. I mean this IS Raiders of the Lost Ark we are talking about!

"Lost Arc" is more than likely a mathematical term. This leads me to suspect that the DVDs will be edited to include interactive educational material for kids. At one point in the new "Indyactive-&-Indycational" version, Indy will stumble across a trap that requires long division to solve. At this point, he turns to the camera and says "I don't think I can solve this one without help from my junior archaeologist friends at home. Do YOU know the answer?" And then an Infinifilm-style box will pop up on the screen with multiple choice answers. If you select the wrong answer, we view a scene where Indy becomes surrounded by Nazis, all pointing walkie-talkies at him. With the sound of a discharge, the disc is immediately ejected from the player. If you get it right, Indy says "Good job, buddy. The Force is strong in this one!" and the film resumes.

Coming soon: the DVD release of Indiana Jones and the Six Traits of Writing.

I look at the prospect of double-dipping this way:

It's the "Star Wars" thing, guys! You know...we've been telling Lucas GIVE US THE FILMS ***NOW*** AND WE'LL BUY THEM, EVEN IF THEY ARE BARE-BONES! AT LEAST WE'LL HAVE THE MOVIES! IF AN S.E. COMES OUT LATER THAT'S BETTER, WE'LL BUY IT, TOO!

Sorry for the shouting, uh, I mean *emphasis*. But, well, we've kind of been "shouting" for these films, and I wanted to remind people of that before anyone starts feeling too disappointed in the idea of a possible double-dip on them (which may NOT happen, true...but even if Paramount told us today it was a certainty I would not hold it against them).

I say "bring it on...NOW" in the best possible DVD you can give me with the original theatrical version of the film and whatever supplements you can. Anything more you can possibly give us in a year or two later as a two-disc S.E. is fine by me. Like with the Star Trek titles (and Jack Ryan, and for that matter Grease, too), it will be up to each of us to decide whether or not we should upgrade. Even if many of us decide not to double-dip, I think it's safe to say that the sellers of such would find it to be money in the bank.
