Re: Films that you fear may NEVER be released on DVD.

Have you guys added your email address to Amazons "Most Requested" list?:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/546274/102-0200059-1877770

I don't know how effective it is, but I always add a notification, figuring someone at Amazon must be collecting numbers...

I definitely added mine for Song of the South! (I know it's a long shot, but a couple clicks of the mouse couldn't hurt)

A anamorphic BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. What's up with that? Warner has a great track record but this film seems to have fallen under the radar with them.

Re: Films that you fear may NEVER be released on DVD.

Let me put in a word for "Chilly Scenes Of Winter". I believe it was released on videotape at one point (the only copy I have is taped off of commercial TV). It was released by United Artists so I would believe its controlled by MGM. Add to this "Between The Lines" (controlled by who knows, though Home Vision released "Hester Street") and "Crossing Delancey" (WB, so there's a decent chance for that one) for a Joan Micklin Silver cult movies box set!

"I was born when she kissed me. I died when she left me. I lived a few weeks while she loved me."

My 25 most wanted DVDs: Chilly Scenes Of Winter (1979); The Dead (1987); The African Queen (1951); Johnny Guitar (1954); The Sterile Cuckoo (1969); The Friends Of Eddie Coyle (1973); The Rain People (1969); Abe Lincoln In Illinois (1940); Far from the Madding Crowd (1967); Shanghai Express (1932); Rachel, Rachel (1968); Love with the Proper Stranger (1963); The Wind (1928); Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973); The Magnificent Ambersons (1942); Ruggles Of Red Gap (1935); Greed (1925); The Effect Of Gamma Rays On Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds (1972); Ride The Pink Horse (1947); The Pumpkin Eater (1964); The Go-Between (1970); Sons And Lovers (1960); The Criminal Code (1931); Viva Zapata! (1952); That ffice:smarttags" />Hamilton Woman (1941)

Re: Films that you fear may NEVER be released on DVD.

Yes, THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE. I am hoping the new relationship between Paramount and Criterion will lead to this one coming out, as well as PHASE IV, CRACK IN THE WORLD and others.

I add:

EL NORTE
THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH
JOURNEY OF HOPE
PATHFINDER (ORIGINAL NORWEGIAN)
BURN WITCH BURN
THE JUNGLE BOOK (1942, a decent transfer, please!)
WUTHERING HEIGHTS (1939)
THE HURRICANE (1937)
THE GUNFIGHTER
VAMPIRE CIRCUS
TWINS OF EVIL
QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT
QUATERMASS 2
THE GORGON
THE HELLSTROM CHRONICLE (fat chance, I know)
LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT (ditto)
THE FULLER BRUSH MAN
LE GRAND CHEMIN
BLACK RAIN (JAPANESE, RE-ISSUE OF OOP TITLE)
THE UNINVITED (1944)
THE MEPHISTO WALTZ
EYES OF FIRE
CANTERVILLE GHOST (1944)
EDGE OF THE CITY

probably a hundred more...

BUT

My list has certainly narrrowed, thanks to the studios and companies who have recently released (or are about to release) BILLY BUDD; CRIA CUERVOS; SPIRIT OF THE BEEHVIVE; IF; ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS; ACE IN THE HOLE; TALES FROM THE CRYPT; LAND OF THE PHARAOHS; SOLDIER BLUE; WHOSE LIFE IS IT ANYWAY?; 36 HOURS; THE HILL; PRINCE OF THE CITY; etc. I've learned to grow a little patience, as most titles turn up eventualy. Except those belonging to Sony.

Re: Films that you fear may NEVER be released on DVD.

Sorry if this hasn't been brought up before, but I came up with this really horrible thought.

Everybody can pick their favorite "Not on DVD" title and flash forward 50 years. We'll asume that said title didn't come out, and still (after 50 years) isn't out. Now just you (if you are still alive) and a handful of other people, know that it existed a long time ago.

These heirs to this 'rights' fortune won't be getting any $$$ from this at all now. This may require an extention to their legal rights, but that's not the issue here. If they don't take an offer today, won't they all be totally screwed when they won't get any money from this, ever?

True, but the majority are controlled by the studios, and some of them (Sony especially) probably woun't care. ):
