Might as well stick in my usual Paramount DVD requests here:
THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST (1967, un-cut, all the original music intact, commentary by writer/director Theodore J. Flicker)
THE NAKED PREY (1966)
TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE (1959)
TARZAN THE MAGNIFICENT (1960)
DANGER: DIABOLIK (1968)
THE BLISS OF MRS. BLOSSOM (1968)
THE ASSASSINATION BUREAU (1968)
MURPHY'S WAR (1971)
ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS (1964)
I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE (1958)
DARK CITY (1950)
THE NAKED JUNGLE (1954)
THE DESPERATE HOURS (1955)
DETECTIVE STORY (1951)
LADY IN A CAGE (1964)
CRACK IN THE WORLD (1965)
ACE IN THE HOLE/THE BIG CARNIVAL (1951)
THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952)
THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (1959)
MONTE WALSH (1970, formerly Fox)
PRIME CUT (1972, formerly Fox)
Any of these on the near horizon yet?
Thanks much for the encouraging tidbit concerning BLACK SUNDAY (1977), by the way.

I was not implying that this Studio will make more $$$$ with classic catalog titles rather than the latest film fresh from its 2 week run in the theaters.
|
I never stated that you implied anyone would make more money off of a catalog title than off of a new release. I stated that you implied that they MIGHT make more from the catalog releases. You said: "I guess Paramount feels that they can make more $$$$$$$ by releasing, IMHO, questionable titles like "Jackass" than from classic musicals."
Your bitterness about the whole issue seems abundantly apparent. You misstated what Martin Blythe said and apparently feel the need to slam all those "questionable" titles that will hit DVD before the ones you want to so.
I understand your displeasure, but the ways in which you discuss the issues seem counterproductive...

This's an interesting thread, in that each respondant has presented his/her case quite cordially. From one who's been self-employed almost 40 yrs., and a video retailer for 11, the primary responsibility of any " for profit business " is to increase shareholder equity. Often times, this requires decisions that aren't popular, but are necessary. To suggest that an entire genre of film's being excluded from release, due to a whim, while being theoretically possible, is very unlikely; a single film, perhaps, but not an entire category. In the past, with respect to the catalogue titles I've watched from Paramount, there's no question that money's been spent on refurbishment where needed; this's certainly not true with some of the other studios. Therefore, I conclude that Paramount's position's that they refuse to release a title unless it's done to their standards, a decision that I respect, even though this means that we all will experience some disappointment. Excluding announcements for this yr., the 4 titles I seek will probably never see the light of day, but that won't in any way deter from throwing in an occasional lobby, so since I'm here anyway, any news on the below:
1.Buccaneer, The
2.Last Outpost, The
3.Pony Express
4.Villa Rides!

Mr. Blythe,
I don't know what the numbers were like for Sorry, Wrong Number ( I purchased a copy. ), but I'd love to see Paramount release The File on Thelma Jordan.
Also, I'll second most of the titles on Peter Fitzgerald's list, especially -
The Naked Prey
Danger: Diabolik
The President's Analyst
Robinson Crusoe On Mars - ( I can wish, right? )
Dark City
The Naked Jungle
The Desperate Hours
Lady In A Cage
Monte Walsh
Prime Cut
And finally, I'm curious if we'll be seeing Hud or The Miracle of Morgan's Creek in 2003?
Thanks, as always, for your consideration.
Walter...

More votes for:
The President's Analyst, UNCUT
Danger Diabolik (almost all the rest of Mario Bava's films are available on DVD, and selling quite well, as I understand it. Maybe a tie-in with Tim Lucas' forthcoming book on Bava would be a way to maximize profitability).
...
and of course, the dreaded Four Flies on Grey Velvet.

The Official Preston Sturges web site had already announced that Morgan's Creek would be forthcoming from Paramount as a special edition in June 2003 including a final interview with the now deceased Eddie Bracken. Strangly, that site, www.prestonsturges.com is now non-functioning.

Since someone has already brought up thisfilm, I have a deep personal fondness for Lady in a Cage that has a lot to do with nostalgia. I would love to see this on DVD (plus it's a really cool film).

I'll reiterate my request for Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It would be nice to have this family friendly title available in a new widescreen presentation.

I would like to see "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" get released whenever that may be. Please keep it in mind when considering future releases. Thanks.
