Any chance of seeing Battle Royale in R1?

Title pretty much says it. Any chance of a R1 playable Battle Royale? An offical Asian R0 would be fine so long as it had English subs and menus.

No chance right now. The companies interested in it say that Toei wants too much $$

An english trans of the novel comes out next week

The Korean R0 is the best disc out there, the UK SE has translated extras, but the transfer on the film is totally screwed up

I was just going to start a topic about this. I want to see Versus get released too. I think the reason why this hasn't come out is because of the "violent nature" and the money. Personally I don't think this film is that violent, I've seen much more violence in films before.

The fact that it's kids killing kids has kept it off Miramax's radar. No major label would want it for that reason too. Media Blasters has Versus, but Toei wants a HUGE dollar figure for BR that the companies that can take the press just can't afford.

I know for a fact that 3 or 4 companies have tried to get it, and frankly, the market is so eroded by the easily gotten UK and Korean R0 NTSC versions that it's really not even worth their time anymore.

Perhaps when BR2 comes out this summer, someone may be able to get a package deal.

Dunno, I think the delay is in getting the anamorphic transfer from Japan

If you can live without the extras being subtitled in English, I would definitely recommend getting the 2-disc R0 Korean DVD. The anamorphic transfer is excellent and the DTS sounds great. I would've loved to check out the extras on the second disc, but it was the movie I wanted, so I'm a happy camper.

If you have a region-free PAL to NTSC player, I'd personally recommend the Tartan 2-disc SE. The transfer isn't as good from what I understand and it's not the extended version, but frankly I think the original cut is better and at least the extras are comprehensible to non-Japanese/Korean-speakers. Although if you don't have a DVD player that can handle it the Korean set is probably the best bet.

erm Tartan UK offer an Region free NTSC version of the film, which is the second release of BR. I believe their intentions with this was to get it out to the US market. Since NTSC discs are hardly ever sold in UK. This disc has the best picture for any UK release and has removable eng subs.

check it out.

Doesn't the XBOX do PAL > NTSC internally like a PC DVD player does? If so you should be able to play the UK R0 Tartan release on an XBOX

Update Whoops, just read the post above this one - it's NTSC anyway!

Yup, this is the one I've got and I'll say it's a perfectly nice dvd and probably the best bet for NTSC viewers. I got mine from pokerindustries.com.

Wow, the UK one costs 3 times what the Hong Kong version does. Any place to get that ships to the US for a fairly decent price?
