Maybe not a Silver Lining, but at least there's one way of kick starting a discussion here.

OMG... I hope not..

Let's just keep to the discussion of IAMMMMW and the restoration problems..

I do not want to see any lame ass ideas of a sequel.. It could never be done.
..and should never be attempted to succeed an original American Classic such as Stanley Kramers's brilliant direction, Well known stars showing us their desire of greed, comedy, and car chases.
Early Southern Californian scene locations, cameos, oscar winning music score and William Roses's wonderful witty script made this one of my top ten favourite films of all time.

Oscar winning score? It should have won, but it lost to "Tom Jones." The only Oscar MAD WORLD won was the very first Oscar given for sound effects editing.

I would like to add that in addition to writing a few letters to MGM about the restoration I sent a letter to The Film Foundation with a donation to continue the work many films that are in trouble. http://www.film-foundation.org

Re: IT's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World Restoratiion

Just came to my attention tonight about Spencer Tracys screen role name in IAMMMMW.., ...... is 'T.G.' or 'C.G.' 'Culpeper' or 'Culpepper' ?????

IMDB has all these examples.. Don't want to bring out the DVD at this point as I don't think there is any end credits and the opening credits would only have the actors names and not roles.

Re: IT's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World Restoratiion

I've finally seen the "lost footage" for this film and I have to say it's a disappointment. Just trims, basically. I was hoping for some new sequences or something.

My question is about the differences between the versions. By borrowing, buying and recording off the air, I now have four versions:

1. VHS release (two tapes)
2. TCM version
3. DVD with one hour of extra scenes
4. DVD with movie only

My question: is there any difference between 1 and 2, and between the main feature on 3 and 4?

My friend says the VHS has the most footage, but it seems to be the same as the TCM version to me.

Anyone know?

Thanks,

Mark

This was one of the DVD's that MGM "downgraded". It was originally a flipper with the movie on one side and most of the extras on the other. Later, they removed the extras side to cut costs and reissued it. So the disc out there now is basically bare-bones. I'm sure the movie is the same on both discs.

I have the barebones version. It even retained the same menu, which instructed viewers to flip the disc for special features. If only I had picked this up @ the same time as Terminator: SE and Fiddler on the Roof: SE.
