Buyer beware: Misleading Circuit City Monster Cables display

At my local Circuit City (in Huntington beach, CA),they have 2 LCDs set up showing the difference in quality of the picture using Monster cables and using regular cables.

Both displays are playing of a feed directly from an HDDVD of Shrek. The video on the left LCD (regular cables) looked noticebly blurrier than the one on the right (monster cable).

Now the advertisement display doesn't say what kind of cable connection is being used for each set, only saying that the one on the right is using monster cables. So I checked the back of the sets. And yes (you might have guessed it), the blurry one on the left is using a regular composite cable, while the one on the right is using a Monster HDMI cable. I couldn't believe CC would stoop this low to push Monster Cables.

The other thing that I noticed was that the one on the left also has regular component cables hooked up, so i simply pressed on the input button a few times on the set to use component inputs. Now the two sets were virtually indistinguishable from each other. Hopefully, not too many people were fooled by that display.

Awesome. Great job. I hate stores that cheat like that. If only more people cared to do some investigation like you did.

Re: Buyer beware: Misleading Circuit City Monster Cables display

I have not needed to purchase instrument cables in years. I went into a music store to pick up a couple of new ones. All I saw on the wall was monster cable. I asked the guy behind the counter if all he has was monster and he said yes. I told him no thanks, I don't drink the monster kool-aid, he laughed and said most don't.

I guess I will go back to making my own cables.

Yeah, the only thing that is Monster that I will gladly buy is the energy drink variety...
