Newbie idiot question... Meridian 861

Hi, I am new to this forum but found this great site trying to find some answers for my parents. To be perfectly honest I am a complete idiot when it comes to home theaters (which I am sure I will prove over and over in this thread). I am just hoping one of you guru's might be able to point me in the right direction.

I tried searching through some threads here, mostly because I know it is proper forum etiquettes to look before you ask a question that may have been answered a dozen time. Quite honestly, I don't understand most of what I am reading. Having said that here is my dilemma:

My parents bought a house from a guy who was a home theater fanatic (system included in the purchase). It has an amazing bunch of boxes and things that do stuff with wires all over. There seems to be a problem with something called a surround controller. It is a meridian 861 and although it gets power, it will do nothing else (I can tell it is getting power because there is a small light that says mpeg that lights up). It used to work, just quit the other day.

Sooo, has anyone ever come across this before with their 861 and is there a reset or something? Alternatively, is there something else that i could replace it with? I am sure this will sound like blasphemy here, but I am sure that meridian did more than they would know what to do with and they just want to be able to watch their tv with sound. Not looking to spend a ton of money if possible and it does not have to be the bomb, they are older and just would like some sound. I have a boom box rigged up to it right now, but it would be nice to use the rest of the speakers in one form or another.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Jody

There's a power switch in back. Try flipping it. A full factory reset would probably entail a lengthy reprogramming session.

In the meantime, here's the 861 manual
