I do it through my PS3, but your mom probably isn't going to be into buying a videogame system for the ability to stream music. I'm sure there are other media server devices that can get the job done...but my only experiences doing it were with a PS3 and an XBox360.

I use a Slim Devices Squeezebox 3 to stream music from my laptop to my stereo system, absolutely terrific player. The new Squeezebox Duet is also available

A cheaper solution might be an Apple AirPort Express, I haven't tried this for myself however

Re: wireless streaming to a home stereo?

I'm another very satisfied Squeezebox (Duet) owner. It's the coolest piece of technology that I own.

I began to really enjoy iTunes late last year, and once I learned that I could rip all my CDs to iTunes in Apple Lossless format, I was only going to consider solutions that would allow me to keep using iTunes since it's so user friendly. I now have all 3000 of my songs on my computer in Apple Lossless, and my entire music collection in the palm of my hand (i.e. the Duet remote). I listen to music now more than ever, and it was all a breeze to set up. I will never own a CD player again

Re: wireless streaming to a home stereo?

do you have to buy seperate recievers for each room in your house and can you access any online stream or does it have to be available on some predetermined list?

I'm asking cause my dad is always bugging me about listening to this obscure radio show from Florida (we're in Toronto) in his bedroom and the only thing I could think of/that I knew of til now was running many, many feet of spealer wire from the pc to his room. (which is totally impractical)

Re: wireless streaming to a home stereo?

With squeezebox duet, you just buy a receiver for every stereo you want to listen to music on. Each stereo system or whatever can listen to something different.
Try looking at slimdevices website, under the duet.

You do need a receiver for each stereo you want to hook it up to, yep. As for the radio station, I'd suggest you just download the software and play around with it. That's what I did before I bought the product and it really helped. I know there are a ton of online radio stations to listen to, and I'm pretty sure you can type in the url of a station not listed and get it that way. Not really sure, so don't want to tell you wrong.

Here is the only resource you'll need: Slim Devices : Support : Overview
