I've noticed something odd over the last 6 months or so with my Yamaha 5740. I used to get plenty of sound at -18db, but now the same level of sound is not produced unless I increase to -9db. The quality of sound is still the same (no distortion), but I'm concerned about having to increase the volume level so high.

Nothing has changed in my home theater setup. I'm running 5.1 and have LR speakers set to large, center and surrounds to small, and bass out to LR and subwoofer. I've experimented with different DSP settings, but nothing seems to make any difference. Any suggestions on what might be happening?

I have a Yamaha 5790, and have the same experience. The displayed level is about 10 dB hotter than what I used to use. For a while I wondered if I had lost half the power supply ( + or - rails ) and for a while I wondered if I had damaged my hearing with some extreme power tool usage.

No-one ever had a comment for me. I never found a way to check the power supply.
