receiver to speakers ratings match!!

Hi
just got a new harmon kardon avr 147 receiver. I says that its 40watt/channel output. I have been told by sales persons that watever speakers we get, their per channel rms output should be more than that of receiver.
On that basis i am plannin to buy Logitech Z-5500 5.1 which has 68 Watts/channel rms ratings. and 188 watts subwoofer.
can someone tell me if this would be a good match for the receiver i have bought.

Don't be so worried about power ratings. Also, that Logitech system is powered. It has its own amps It can't be used with a receiver, which is also intended to power speakers.

If he uses the Pre-outs he can.

so althoug there is its own amp of logitech would i get the effects of logic 7 and dtt6 in the speakers or all these effects would get faded out by the amp of logitech?

Unfortunately, while Raymond's response is technically correct, the system wouldn't make much sense. Most of the purpose of a receiver is defeated by doing this. It would just be a bizarre, barely functioning, patched together system.

To answer the last question, probably not. As I already said, many of the features of the receiver would be lost, such as surround modes, volume control and so on. You have the receiver. Do the logical thing and get unpowered speakers so you can use it. The sub will have to be powered, but the one in the Logitech set is not really a sub, despite the marketing.

I suggest you do more research and just read and learn before buying anything else. If you already bought the Logitech, take it back.

Maybe someone else will come in and explain everything from the beginning, but that will take too much for me to go into now.
