If these are the only options, go with the Pioneer VSX-1017XV-K followed by the Denon AVR-587. The Onkyo on your list and other Pioneer model are both way too old and the Denon DRA-275R is only 2 channels.

If you want to consider new, look at:

1) Onkyo TX-SR605 can be had for less than $500
2) Denon AVR-1508 can be had for less than $350, AVR-1708 for less than $500

Pioneer all the way. Great unit and killer later if you decide you want to add an external amp.

Re: Need Help choosing receiver!

Check this one out. I have it's big brother the 805, and it's a great receiver. I can only assume the 605 is as well. Both the black and silver are under $400, though I think the silver is about 10 bucks cheaper than the black. It gives you a bit of future proofing as it is the only one of the ones listed that does the high-definition audio decoding internally. That isn't really a necessity right now, but as the Blu-ray players prices drop, to keep the prices down they will likely begin excluding the surround processing in the players, and you'll be glad you have it in your receiver when that time comes.
