Onkyo tx-sr605 HDMI Question

Hello all! I am new to the forum and was looking for a little help here. I am interested in purchasing the Onkyo tx-sr605 receiver but didn't know how the HDMI portion works. My setup is a Sharp Aquos 46" 1080p TV, PS3 and DirecTV HD-DVR Receiver.

1. Will the audio from the HDMI cable pass through to the TV as well as output through the receiver AT THE SAME TIME?

2. Does the receiver have to be turned on to just watch regular TV with no surround sound?

Any insight on this would be great as I would like to purchase this sometime this week! Thanks!

1) Yes, it can be configured that way, but is not set up for it out of the box.

2) Yes, so long as you set the system up that way, with whatever source (cable, satellite) feeding into both the receiver and TV. You probably can't do this with one cable.
