I think Chris is referring to the audio EQ done by Audyssey in addition to the distance/xover settings. There is no display for the Audyssey EQ settings as it's too complex to represent with the simple graphics engines powering a typical receiver's menu system...adjustments to individual frequencies or bands of frequencies are done in both level and time.
With the Onkyo's at least, you can safely manipulate speaker distances, channel levels, and xover settings without losing the Audyssey measurements. Well, technically, changing the Audyssey measured speaker distances would throw off any time adjustments the engine made. There's a menu for cycling through the EQ settings...off/Audyssey/Manual...so the owner can compare without having to remeasure every time.
