Would like some input on a couple of recievers please...

Okay got my 1080p the other day. Blu Ray is on the way. At the end of the month going to get 'surround' sound. I want a reciever that I can plug in two HDMI (cable and blu ray) and one component (xbox360) then a single HDMI out to the TV. Here are the recievers I have narrowed it down to:

1)Harman Kardon AVR-347 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver

2)Denon AVR-1908

3)Marantz SR4002

4)Onkyo TX-SR705 7.1 Channel AV Home Theater Receiver

I like the H&K and Onkyo because they both up convert. What are some of your ideas considering this is the first reciever I have bought. I am leaning towards the H&K.

Also has anyone ever dealt with JR.com?

Thank you,
Kevin

I'm not sure the 347 up-converts. I could be wrong but I can't see where it says it does. I think the Onkyo 705 does more of what you're looking for.

I've used them a couple of times without problems.

Id suggest looking for one that has 3 HDMI inputs, cause ive never bought any component that had just enough inputs and still had enough 2 years later :S

Cheers

Re: Would like some input on a couple of recievers please...

I recently purchased an Onkyo 705 from JR.com for my brothers Home Theater. The Onkyo was very easy to set up and sounds great. He has just the cable box and Blu-Ray going to the Onkyo via HDMI and then out to the projector on HDMI.

JR.com was very fast and easy to track the order online. And my brother is very happy with his HT.

Re: Would like some input on a couple of recievers please...

The 705 doesn't "upconvert", it transcodes.

IOW, component inputs can be sent to HDMI output, but only at 480p/720p depending on the "secret menu" setting. If you send 1080 to the component in for output via HDMI, resolution will actually be downconverted to either 480/720.

Same holds true for the Onkyo 805, but it does add another HDMI input, THX Ultra certification (most noticeable in the amp section), and Burr-Brown DACs instead of Cirrus (possibly inaudible difference). The street price delta between the 705 and 805 is routinely less than $100....prices for both fluctuate almost daily.

If you're not scared of refurbs, accessories4less is authorized for both Onkyo and Marantz...maybe others.
