A question on 5.1 Surround Sound.
Hello,
I recently purchased a 'Yaitai 5.1 Speaker Surround Sound system' from eBuyer and am looking for a device that may help me in connecting it up. The system itself consists of six speakers (Right, Left, Rear Right, Rear Left, Center, Sub woofer) though I only have two audio output ports in the back of my Television. Ideally I'm looking to connect up Video Game consoles to the system, such as the Wii and Xbox 360. The 360 Audio cable has three connectors Red, White and Yellow, while the Wii simply Red and White.
I was wondering if such thing existed as a sort of audio Hub or Splitter, where the audio output cables can be plugged into one end, while six ports for the Surround Sound cables are on the other. This would split the audio and send it straight to the Surround Sound system, not going through the TV at all seeing as though it does not have enough ports. Here is a simple diagram of what I am trying to describe, hoping that will make it easier to understand.

I've been looking around to see what's on offer, but cannot seem to find anything and was wondering if you could give me some advice on what I want to be buying product wise. Help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance,
- Lee

Re: A question on 5.1 Surround Sound.
i'm afraid you got what you paid for... not much...
the only thing these might do is put more of the same sound you get from 2 speakers out of five+the sub.
the yellow plug on the xbox is for video.
really you can only hook up one component at a time unless you get one of the items that will actually give you what you're looking for. that would be a pre/pro or an avr with 5.1 channel pre-outs. problem is the avr route is (cheaper than the pre/pro's in general but still a couple hundred squid if it has this feature) and already has a much better amplifier section built in so you might as well get some real decent speakers if you were getting the avr... and then you'd want a real sub too. don't get me wrong, what you got may be a step up from you built in tv speakers. but it is not going to give you real surround sound unless you buy some real and more expensive gear.
real surround signals are more than just a reconfiguration of left and right audio channels, so just splittling the the red and white cables won't really get you surround.
sorry, this is probably not the news you were hoping for...
if ebuyer will take it back, you could trade it in for a logitech thx system that actually decodes surround without getting into the more pricey gear.

Re: A question on 5.1 Surround Sound.
use an rca y cable female > 2 males. send the left to left front + rear and the same for the right. that will get you 4 channels for sure. might affect sound quality.
when you use it with your headphone jack, do you get sound from the sub and all speakers? if so, you can get a cable that will make that connection from mini 1/8" plug to rca.
