It's been ages since I posted in this neck of the woods, but it's kind of upgrade time for me at this point. Here's the setup:
X-Box 360 with HD-DVD Drive addon
PS3
Motorola Cable Box
Nintendo Wii
I plan on using HDMI output on the first three while using component on the last one. After some research, these are the two receivers I found that helps with my upgrade. And these are the reasons I've stated:
1. 3 hdmi inputs
2. analogue to digital conversion (for Nintendo Wii)
3. Dolby True HD and dts HD decoding
Here is where I need help:
1. Because the XBox can not decode the more advanced codecs, can it send the audio via HDMI for the receivers to decode? The answer to this question will more or less determine whether or not I seriously consider getting a dedicated HD DVD player.
2. As someone who is completely ignorant of speaker technology, what does wattage mean for me? Both these receivers have 130 watts (?) for the speakers. I have no idea what the rating is for my speakers (don't know where the spec sheet went or if there is a rating on my speakers). This will determine if I need to shop for speakers as well (or if I need to downgrade to the 705 for the Onkyo).
3. I have a TV with a maximum of 1080i. If PS3 and the Xbox output 1080p, will I notice anything funny with the image? Will the receiver "downscale" to accommodate?
4. What do you guys think?

Good choices? Bad choices?
