What speakers are you using? Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo have several stereo receivers, and I believe NAD also makes a integrated amp in that price range. You can also go to Audiogon and look for used equipment. You might be able to pick up a nice pre-amp and amp for that price range from adcom, rotel, NAD, or parasound.

Check out the Denon, Yamaha or Onkyo stereo receivers. For that budget, you'll have a couple of good choices. I owned a Denon 2-ch receiver that worked well with a pair of hard-to-drive floorstanders.

NAD C320 BEE from saturdayaudio.com for $300 if they still have any.

or

Pick up a vintage integrated or receiver from your local used gear shop or ebay. marantz, sony, pioneer, kenwood, sansui all have some excellent choices. lots of real world power and built to last.

HT: Marantz SR8000, PSB Alpha B fronts, Alpha C center, CSW New Ensemble surrounds, Martin Logan Dynamo Sub, Philips DVD, Sony CRT TV

Stereos include vintage Sony receivers/amps into vintage AR and KEF speakers.
