Re: 1200.00 for a new receiver

Hello Wayne,

What is your long term goal for your ht sytem?

Do you have or are you planning to buying an 1080p HDTV?
Do you have or are you planning to buying an Blu-ray or HD-DVD player?
Do you plan on having the ability of decoding Dolby True HD or DTS-HD Master Audio from an HD player?
What is the size of your room?
What is the power handeling specs of your speakers?

Here are some recomendations:
Denon AVR-2808ci $1,200
Denon AVR-3808ci $1,600 *****
Denon AVR-4308ci $2,500 out of your budget but it is really nice

Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH $1,300
Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH $1,600

Yamaha RX-V1800 $1,300
Yamaha RX-V3800 $1,700

Marantz SR-601 $1,200 (DOES NOT have HDMI 1.3a and no decoding for Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus or DTS-HD Master Audio).

Those are the three mid end receiver company's that I highly recomend then the back up Marantz. A company called D&M Holdings actually owns Denon, Marantz and McItosh. The Denon AVR-3808 is getting rave reviews and is being purchased by a number of members of this forum. And is the receiver that will most likely replace my current Yamaha RX-V995 5.1 surround receiver.
