I have a 6 year old Sony STR-K502p. I noticed watching Spiderman 3 that the digital decoding failed. I put in Shrek the 3rd and the decoding worked perfectly. Whatever kind of 5.1 signal DirecTV transmits also fails to be decoded. The receiver has a blue light on top that comes on when it is actively decoding digital 5.1 signal. It works on every DVD I've tried except Spiderman 3. It worked on Sum of All Fears, Sixth Sense, Shrek the 3rd.

This is strange to me. I don't know alot about decoding methods. Can someone tell me if there's a new 5.1 signal that my Sony may not be able to decode? It worked fine for DirecTV until about a week or so ago. Has DirecTV changed anything that you know of?

This is highly frustrating. Either way, it looks like I have to buy another receiver (which I don't mind too badly because I'd like some more features anyway).

I am a total goofball. My DirecTV receiver's Digital Dolby setting got switched to off when I reset my box to defaults. It works fine now that I figured that out.

But the Spiderman 3 thing is still a mystery to me. Any ideas on that?
