After being without my HT for the past 3 years, I'm looking to purchase a entry-level receiver in the US and fly it down here to my home in Mexico...the old Sony prologic unit I have is finally going PROTECT more and more often,so I figured it would be good to get something while I'm home over the holidays.
So I've been strongly looking at the Onkyo SR-304 at shoponkyo.com for a number of reasons - price of course (I'm a missionary, so not alot of disposable income), weight (ultra important since I have fly back with it, and the lighter the better-putting electronics in your carryon is the safest bet), and features - I don't need HDMI or 7.1 with my setup.
Here's a link to the box:

Here is my setup right now:
Sources:
- phillips region free DVD player
- PS2
- Wii
- DVD-R/DVR combo from RatShack
- iPod
Display - 25" non-progressive CRT (1 component/1 S-Video/2 composite inputs)
Speakers - 2 x Boston Acoustics A40v, generic KLH center
The two big questions I have hoped you guys would answer about Onkyos are A) do they run hot? I've previously had Denons (run cool), Sonys (super hot), Sherwoods (medium), and an Aiwa (campstove). The cabinet where it will live is spacious but that doesn't prevent the sony I have now from cooking itself.
B) - I know that Onkyo (like Harmon Kardon) underrates their amp power compared to JVC, Sony, etc. Does someone who has a similar powered Onkyo (65/wpc) have any problems using mid-sized bookshelf speakers? I will eventually be getting some smaller surrounds, but they will be as efficient or more than the A40s that I already have (90 dB/W/m).
Its $97 shipped/no tax until Monday, so I need to decide quick. Thanks in advance for your $0.02.
