Queston with my Onkyo tx-sr803

My Toshiba HDA3 will be on my doorstep tommorrow. I have a Onkyo TX-sr803 receiver which is fully hmdi compatible. I will run an hdmi cable from the dvd player into the onkyo and then to the tv. But You guys are talking about some kind of sound improvment with high def. movies. I just wanted to know if I have to change any settings on my dvd player or receiver to achieve this better sound or will the receiver automatically reconize the hd signal from the dvd player and switch on it's own. I know most sd movies are recorded in dd and when I put a movie in that it dts the receiver automatically swiches to dts. Will this be the same with my new dvd player? Thanks

Re: Queston with my Onkyo tx-sr803

You receiver should be fine, except you should make sure the digital audio for the port you are connected to is set to 'HDMI'.

Set the A3 to:

HDMI Audio: Auto
SPDIF: PCM

This will pass DD+/TrueHD as LPCM (Multichannel PCM), DTS-DH as core DTS and SD audio as DD/DTS. The 'PCM' setting on the SPDIF is to correct a problem with muffled output on HDMI when SPDIF is set to 'Bitstream'.
