Denon 2308ci vs Onkyo TX-SR605

Hello all,

I'm asking for some constructive feedback on the merits of one receiver over another. The application is for my home office. This not my main HT receiver. The unit will be driving a 5.1 speaker configuration with the other zone being in my garage. Display will be a 42" Sharp Aquos 1080P.
The comparioson is between the Denon 2308ci vs Onkyo TX-SR605. There's a pretty good price difference between the two units. I have read, (but don't fully understand) the different ways the two receivers convert or upconvert video with the different chips / processors. Additionally, there are comments on the Onkyo unit regarding heat and some units making a clicking or popping sound when switching between sources. I haven't read that about the Denon comparable unit.
I own an Integra unit for my my hd and am happy with it's performance given the features that it had when I bought the unit 5 years ago.

Construction on the office is nearly complete and I'll need to pull the trigger soon. Your thoughts and insight are appreciated.

Both players are a good choice and you won't be wrong by selecting either. But of the two IMO I would choose the Denon. The new Denon units are very reliable and I feel that it will be a little more trust worthy for you comparing to the onkyo.

The onkyo units are good though for the price. You do get what you pay for though with the onkyo units. From my readings and studies that I've done on both players at my work I think the Denon is a superior unit when it comes to internal components, etc. The onkyo's can run hot but almost all recievers do. I'm not saying Denon recievers don't, but the cooling displacement in the onkyo isn't as good as the Denons. Also the Onkyo uses "cheaper" parts for their internals. It will still get the job done but once again you get what you pay for. I hope this helps and if you have ne more questions don't hesitate to ask.
