Losing audio Onkyo 777 Receiver

My Onkyo is about 7 - 8 yrs old. Within the last week the audio has been dropping out sporadically. At first it was sporadic and now it is mostly off. The receiver powers on and the video passes to the TV no problem. It seems the Audio would turn on if the receiver has been turned off for a while then if you change the sattelite channel or source the audio will drop out & stay off, but the picture is fine. It doesn't help to change the source say to DVD, still no audio, but video is fine. I tried troubleshooting by going to audio setup and trying the channel levels. Rather than playing the test tones through the proper speaker it just had a low white or pink noise through all channels at once. Also there is a light crackly or static noise when navigating the setup menu. It hasn't done this before this week, nary a hiccup in all this time. Tried unplugging it for 20 minutes and no fix. Now am unplugging it overnight to see if that clears it. Now it doesn't seem to have audio at all. The odd thing is that when I turn the receiver on I can hear my subwoofer power up as usual and when I press volume up from minimum I hear that light puff that I've always heard from the speakers, but no sound from the program regardless of source. Anyone have any ideas on this one? Is she biting the dust or just need a cleaning or something?

Sounds like she is giving in.

Seems like a bad audio board.

Re: Losing audio Onkyo 777 Receiver

Is that repairable? I switched the 777 out with a $300 HK from Best Buy just so we could watch TV. The Onkyo still looks new after about 8 yrs. We were still very happy with the sound and the functionality. The setup on the new HK cannot touch the simplicity and accuracy of the Onkyo it replaced. I do however notice that the bass does not bump when the receiver picks up the audio with the HK like it did with the Onkyo. I would like to repair the 777 if possible and hold out until a few more product generations of HDMI before we upgrade to a new Onkyo. Thanks for the reply.

Speaker outputs? Or amp outputs?
