Yes it comes through the HDMI, no need for "monitor" cable. It looks great to me.

Well one thing I noticed is that no matter how many times I run it, the Audyssey sets up my front and center as "large". My MB Quarts are great but I really don't think they handle down to 20-40 very well. I find that setting up the fronts/center to "small" then set the crossover at 80 gives me a very clean, spacious sound. My M&K v125 sub does a great job with the lows.

Does the Audyssey set my fronts/center at "large" because it detects low frequency capability? My MB Quart 1002 S are awesome speakers but not known for their ability to handle lows so that is surprising to me.

Do you recommend I keep the "large" specification Audyssey detects to give them full range? There is NO way that my center, as good as it is, can handle 20-40. Bottom line is that it doesn't sound as good to me as when I set them as small to run bass management and send the lows to the sub.

Currently I run the audyssey then change the speakers to "small" and setup the crossover frequency to 80 on the front/center and 110(audyssey setting) on the surrounds with the sub at 80. This sounds the best to me...am I doing something wrong?

One more thing I'm wondering is if I can set my fronts to 60 and my center to 80mhz without it ruining the soundstage. Do they have to be set to the same crossover frequency to be optimal?

I read the articles about setting up bass management and they talk about ALWAYS setting up your speakers to "small" and using crossovers for the best sound. Why would audyssey set my fronts/center to "large" if they can't handle lows as well as sending the signal to the sub?

Re: Denon AVR-3808CI: An Overview

One more question regarding the new crossover options with the Denon.

On my sub I'm setting it to "bypass" to allow the Denon to control everything. Is this correct? If I was to set it to variable then I would have to use the frequency dial to control the crossover frequency, correct? I'm assuming this setting is for recievers without all the crossover options built in.

Would setting it to "variable" ruin the sub settings I have in the Denon? I've never had so much control over the crossover frequency and I'm trying to get it all straight in my head.

There's a manual EQ setting:

Manual Setup -> Audio Setup -> Manual EQ, where you can adjust the tone quality for each individual speaker, left/right, or all speakers at once, at select frequency bands.

You can also adjust the overall bass/treble:

Parameter -> Audio -> Tone -> Tone Defeat/Bass/Treble; you'll need to set Tone Defeat to "OFF" in order to set Bass and Treble; also, Tone can't be adjusted when listening in DIRECT audio mode.

If you are going to use the Audyssey then set it to bypass.

I am really considering buying this receiver, but I don't have a Blu Ray player yet. Is there one out there that will at least bitstream DTS-MA?

Re: Denon AVR-3808CI: An Overview

i'm really frustrated now.

i cannot get the denon 3808 to connect to internet radio or do a search for update.

i was able to last week but can't now.

i took my desktop downstairs to the denon including the modem and the router.

i even connected right to the denon from the modem and still nothing.

all i get is a "network problem' error meassage.

i turned off the upnp, is that supposed to e on or off?

how can i tell if i have a defective unit?
i looked in network info and no ip address shows up.

i've turned dhcp on and off.
i've turned proxy on and off.

help.
