6.1 speaker system to a 7.1 receiver...

I just purchased a Denon AVR-2307CI 7.1 channel receiver. I also just moved into a house that has a 6.1 speaker system pre-wired. What should I do for speaker connectivity on the 7.1 receiver?

I'm not the most well-informed audio installer. If a 7.1 system uses 4 rear speakers and a 6.1 system uses 3 speakers, which OUTPUT should I NOT use on the receiver? Does it matter?

A 7.1 system is actually supposed to use 2 sides and 2 rears, not 4 rears. You don't say how the 6 speakers are situated, but there should be one in the middle of the back and one on each side. You should just be able to connect the rear speaker to either of the rear connections and then turn off the other in the speaker configuration
