First receiver: advice needed

Hi all,

I currently have the following equipment and speakers:

Sony Rear Projection KP-51WS500 - Composite (2 out), S-Video (3 out), Component (2 out)
DirecTV HR20 - Composite (2 out), S-Video (1 out), Component (1 out)
Sony DVP-NS75H DVD player: Composite (1 out), S-Video (1 out), Component (1 out), HDMI (1 out)
Xbox 360

Speakers:
Polk R150's, R300, CSR

With the equipment and speakers above I'm looking for a receiver around $275 or less that will handle everything well and sound great. I can go above that price a little bit so I'm willing to hear what would be the best.

Advice is much appreciated.

Now a days 299.00 can get you a few receivers with HDMI in and out. I'll just throw out some names, then go to the sites or go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City for comparisons. The ones that come to mind are the following:
Pioneer:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...915436,00.html

Panasonic:
http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...00000000005702

Denon:
http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3248.asp#

All pretty good receivers for the price.

Re: First receiver: advice needed

Thanks for the reply. I was actually set on the Onkyo TX-SR504, but what do you think of these choices? Do you think it's worth it to step up to these, or is the upgrade slim?

Onkyo TX-SR505 or Pioneer VSX817K

The Onkyo has HDMI inputs, Audyssey 2EQ auto room calibration, and iPod compatibility which are things that sound great for a pretty decent price.

Looks like the Pioneer has more power, but I don't think that should be the deciding factor.

I happen to like Onkyo it's got everything you need for the price and they do sound good. When I compared it to Harman Kardon I thought a little bright but still great sounding. These days I'm not sure but give a listen. Take your own music or movie and give it a test run.

Blobula,

Seeing as your Sony TV does not support HDMI in, why don't you spend your money on a more powerful used receiver that someone is selling due to upgraditis. I bet there are many possibilities for you.

Are there any models you'd recommend I look for?
