Help...I want to bridge.

I would like to bridge...however I've never done this before so I do not know what i'm doing. I'm thinking 5 channel amp. I'm set-up for 7.1 My current reciever is the Yamaha RX-V1600. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My budget is 2000.00. Thanks all.

Re: Help...I want to bridge.

Hi Doug - A few questions to get you started:

1. What speakers are you driving?
2. What are the dimensions of your room?
3. What are your sources? For audio, are they connected by HDMI, Digital or Analogue?
3. Is this system primarily for music or for home theater?
4. What are the results you are looking for by adding a poweramp?

My personal opinion is that the biggest factors in building a capable audio system are first your speakers, then room acoustics, then source, followed by preamp and finally by poweramp. Unless your speakers are particularly hard to drive or you have a particularly large room, I don't often recommend spending more on the poweramp than on the preamp (receiver in your case). You will often find bigger improvements by improving your sources and preamp first. But first please answer the questions above and we can certainly offer recommendations!

Re: Help...I want to bridge.

What exactly do you mean by bridge? If you mean bridging amp channels, you need an amp that is capable of bridging which most receivers are not. If you bought a $2000 amp, you would likely have more than enough power to just use the amp. A more expensive amp than the pre isn't going to hurt anything since you can always upgrade the pre later and keep the amp, though you don't really need to go overboard on the amount of power either.

I was thinking the same thing. I have no idea what the OP is asking for.
