I need help or am I better off buying a new HDTV?

Ok, heres the deal. I purchase this TV about 4yrs ago, which I believe is a dinosaur in this day and age. The TV is a Sony KP-61HS30. It has none of todays high input features. I'm stuck with s-video and component video inputs. TV is HD compatible up to 720p. How or what can I buy to get the best video/picture quality? I would like to start playing blu-ray as well, since I purchase a PS3.

-Do I need to buy a high-end Component video cable (y/Pb/Pr)?
-Do I need a switcher or converter? If so, where? Model? What exactly does it do?
-Is there such a thing as component video to hdmi?
-Am I just better off buying a new TV to save me the headache and $$$$?

TV Model info can be found here: Please put www in front of the two links. I didn't have enough post to put a url link.

Any Input is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Ty

If you want to play Blu Ray and see the super Hi Def picture it gives then I'd say it's time to get yourself a 1080p set.

Time to start shopping around!!!

How far away from your tv do you sit? Depending on that you may or may not see any significant benefit from 1080p.

I would just keep it until the HD DVD format war is over. You can get a great signal through RGB and a good DVD player.

That set is a 1080i 4/3 HD ready model with raster squeeze for 16/9 sources.
All you'll need with the PS3 is the component video cables specifically designed for the PS3 (the PS3 doesn't have standard component video outs on the console, hence the need for a special cable).

Raster squeeze means the set will squeeze it's native 1080i scanlines into a 16/9 area in the center of the screen leaving black bars at top and bottom which are not scanned so you will be getting the full 1080 resolution, just interlaced instead of progressive. I've used component out from BD and HDDVD to a crt based 1080i widescreen set and got excellent results, you should also have excellent results.

I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they\'re properly run in.

I would like to keep it if possible. I don't really want to fork out the money if I don't have to. The TV is still in very good condition thats why If I can I would just rather buy the extra stuff.

This is it:

Made by Sony for connecting the PS3 to sets with component inputs.
