Rotel RSX-1056 sub output

Hi there - I've posted in the Basics area, but as has been remarked, this may be a bit technical.

So - I've told my RSX-1056 that I have a subwoofer, and it isn't sending anything out through the subwoofer preamp outputs. I've checked all the other preamp outputs, hooked them up to the level meter on my studio PC, test tones and music come through fine. But nothing from the sub channel.

I've tried adjusting the output from the Test Tones menu, nothing. I've tried every combination of speaker sizes and crossovers, nada. Everything else seems to work fine - I've even taken the step of resetting the whole unit to factory default, and it's still not talking to my sub. What's weighing on my mind is this : am I missing something truly arcane, in that I need to sacrifice a small animal to the gods of Rotel to get this working, or is there (shudder) something wrong with my amp?

Any input is appreciated, it's driving me nuts and my new subwoofer is getting lonely!
